"My wife and I did a lot of research in 2009 before deciding to buy a new '09 Honda Fit. We bought the base model, manual, in black. I can honestly say that I have never once, not even for a minute, regretted the investment we made in getting this car. Listing out all of the features I love about this car would quickly turn into a novel, so I'll instead focus on the two aspects of the car that have been most helpful for me: Cargo space and fuel efficiency. We are winter sports enthusiasts, and the winter after we bought out Fit, we took approximately 25 trips up to the mountain to visit the resorts. Our car could not have preformed better. The 40mpg on the highway was a huge help to our pocketbook (the tank is approximately 10.5 gallons to fill, and we have gotten 400 miles in a tank when it was strictly highway driving), and the cargo space is spectacular! When traveling to the mountain with friends, we were able to fold down the smaller of the two seats in the back (which are split 66/34, I believe), store 4 complete sets of snowboarding equipment, and still have room for my 6'4" friend to be sleeping comfortably in the back seat behind me (I'm 6'2"). Both the fuel efficiency and cargo space have come in handy for more domestic affairs as well. I have never gotten less than 32mpg on a tank of gas, even when driving strictly in the city. I've used our Fit on a number of occasions to help friends move, once even managing to put all of a friend's belongings in the back in one load (including a tall mini-fridge, desk, two guitars and amps, 3 suitcases, 4 duffle bags, and a futon mattress). Honda even maximizes cargo space through the design of the back hatch. I've seen many other cars whose hatches either have a very long roof-to-floor slope (Mazda 3), or the door tapers to a narrow point at the bottom (Nissan Versa), both of which make getting cargo into the cargo area more difficult. The fit's hatch sits nearly vertical and stays wide at the bottom, allowing you to fit through the door almost anything that would fit in the cargo area (the one exception for me was a large papasan chair that would have fit inside, but would not fit through the door). I've found that the detail in engineering and design show through in many other ways: moving the gas tank forward to create cargo space for tall items (utilized by flipping the seats up) as well as allowing the seats to fold almost completely flat, instead of at an angle; the nesting headrests in back (on all Fit models 2009 or later; the 2007-08 models had regular headrests) mean you don't need to take the headrests out or move the front seats up before putting the back seats down; even the cup holders (in their excess) show quality design with their more squared shape, which allows them to hold containers more securely than larger round cup holders. To be fair, it's true that it's a fairly noisy car. Our previous car was a Ford Focus, and even that was quieter than the Fit. But, after driving the car for 2 years, I don't even notice it anymore. It is also very true that the suspension is pretty tight, and you will feel the bumps in the road. This, again, is something that I've grown accustomed to and don't really notice anymore. The reality of the situation is this: You're not buying a luxury car, you're buying an economy car. And if you're going to buy an economy car, BUY THE FIT! It has more cargo space, better design, and classic Honda reliability (In two years and almost 30k miles, I haven't had a single issue with the car's function). It's a hands down choice, and two years later I wouldn't hesitate to make it again."

"I like Hatchbacks, so this car already fit my main criteria. What surpised me was the excellent gas mileage. I get an average of 35 miles to the gallon without even trying. It is very roomy despite being a small car. It is a sport version so I was fortunate to find a color that was to my liking. The sound system allows me to plug in my ipod and use the dashboard controls to select and play music. There are only two things I would change about the fit. 1. Improve the music search mechanism....takes a long time to find songs if you're looking for an artist who's name starts with Z. 2. Suspension is a bit hard...would be nicer if the bumps I encounter didn't seem so big."

"So you've already read the reviews about how great a car this is. Simply put, the best. So let's skip the functionality, great value, roominess, features, etc. Let's talk about this car from a mechanic's perspective. I've had the pleasure of building the first ever USDM 2nd gen TURBOCHARGED Honda fit. This car is nothing short of a joy to work on. It took me less than 12 hours to pull out the engine, change to a new shortblock, bolt on the old head w/ a new gasket, and drop it back in. Everything fits together so beautifully. It's art in a way. Everything from the dowel pins on the timing cover, to the clearly labeled tolerance range stamped on the side of each hot-forged cracked rod cap. No tough tool clearances, no hard to reach bolts, no unique tools for every part. Nearly every bolt is 10,12,14,17,or19mm. You could practically rebuild it with a $20 tool set. It is a mechanic's dream. I look at the ford escort in my garage and laugh. It's a joke. You can't even get the oil drain bolt off with a ratchet and socket because theirs no clearance due to the K member, and the oil filter is nearly unreachable - these are only the routine maint. items! The rest of the car is even worse! That car was not made with the same engineering passion as my fit. Did I mention the turbo? T28 @ 10 psi is exactly what this car needed. There is an incredible tolerance for knock in this engine. And if it can handle the abuse I put it through, I assure you that a bone stock fit will last forever. And even if it does breakdown, it's an easy fix for any home mechanic. With the passion displayed in every nut, bolt, and plastic trim clip in the Fit, I promise you, it won't be a bad decision."

"I have an automatic - base model. I bought it with 14K miles and have put about 4K on so far. I have gotten a range of 35 - 38.2 mph on each tank of gas. The monitor that tells me the mpg per tank as I drive is consistently reading 4 - 5 miles over what I really get. I have the base model, and I find I miss 2 items the most that I had with my 01 Celica --- cruise control (not available, unless you buy the sport edition), and a cover for the cargo area. The interior and exterior is lighter weight than my last car and feels as if it may not hold up too well...we shall see. One last item --- comes only with 2 keys that have electronic chips inside...now it does not come with any remote of any sort, that would be an upgrade. But, should I want to have more keys made, I will need to go to Honda and have expensive keys made and reprogrammed. I know the concept is theft control, but the thieves probably have a way around it...and the consumer is charged crazy fees for no reason."

"I love my Fit's reliability, its nearly 40 mpg, it ultra-low emissions, and its adaptable interior. I have carried boxes, luggage, furniture, even two fruit trees from the home improvement superstore to plant in my yard. It can carry 8 bags of mulch easily. It looks pretty cool, too."

"The exterior styling is much better from the 2009 model. The interior cd/ac panel is so NOT modern! massive dials. mpg is awesome! i get 38mpg. whats weird is i get lower mpg on the highway! the rpm shoots up to 4000 and above at 75mph and crashes my mpg to 32-33mpg, weird isnt it? suppose to be the other way around? but i drive city more often so i dont mind. its a zippy thing! can move pretty good. gluck on windy days! haha! you can definitely feel the car shifting! hang on to the wheel! i drive a manual transmission. I like it a lot overall!"

"We bought our Honda Fit Sport just barely used (3 months used) and got a pretty good deal on it and have had it for a little over a year now. So far I have to say that we love it. We bought the standard transmission and were lucky to find it in the Blackberry Pearl color that my wife and I wanted. The Good: The best thing about the Fit is the interior space; for such a little car, it hauls a lot and on our frequent (4 hour) trips to Boston it is one of the most comfortable little cars I have ever driven (and I've owned and rented a lot of small cars) - the flip up back seats are an awesome feature as well, lending the interior to a bunch of different configurations for hauling stuff - it's definitely got some zip to it, though I did notice a difference between the automatic version and the manual transmission (tho I wouldn't mind if they added another 20 horsepower or so) the manual seemed to have more pep - for a small car it handles nicely and sits low to the ground but it is a small car so beware of bumpy roads, you will feel every nook and cranny - the integrated cup holders for the driver and passenger are a really great feature - it gets great gas mileage; typically we get about 35 to 36 mpg running our errands and closer to 40 on longer highway trips. The Not So Good: One slight annoyance is that the cooling fan kicks on all of the time whether it is hot or cold out, I'm not exactly sure why, but it's kind of annoying - the windshield wiper nozzles and the fluid supply hoses freeze up in freezing weather, though I might change out the fluid for something better to avoid that - I'm not crazy about the styling on the dashboard (the older models look better to me) but was willing to overlook the "Conan the Barbarian" aesthetics - it is an inexpensive car and so the paint isn't very resilient, I've noticed some minor chipping on the lower front cowling - as I've mentioned above it is a small sporty car so beware of the jarring ride, if you are looking for the ride of a bigger car definitely look for something else. The Bottom Line: The Honda Fit Sport is a great deal if you need a zippy little car to get around in and haul a lot of stuff . . . and get great gas mileage to boot."

"Only fault with my Fit so far is that the nut on the driver's side windshield wiper came loose. 21,000 miles so far and nothing else has come loose- no rattles, groans, or squeaks. Interior wise, I'm a big guy and I have plenty of room. I have had 6 of my workmates quiz me about this vehicle and one wanted to buy it from me. It has plenty of storage and tons of cargo space. It is an all around good vehicle."
