"Fuel Economy, Reliability, and performance are most important to me. I'm averaging 32 MPG. Not bad but I'm aiming for better. Reliability, it's a month old who can say. Ella can get out of her own way but the little engine works on hills."

Best of the non hybrid econo cars

"Only 1200 miles on my Fit so far, but averaging 35.8mpg in combination local and highway driving. plenty of pep and cruises right along on the highway at 70. the cruise control is better than I would have expected and quite stable. This is a manual transmission, so there is no sudden downshifting and engine revving. There is enough power in the engine to keep up on the mild up and downs here in Massachusetts. The manual transmission is terrific, not mushy, but light and sure. Reminds me of my old VW bug from years ago. The power steering is light and quick on the secondary roads, and although it tracks well on the highway it does feel a bit skittish (my other car is a BMW 5 series wagon and quite heavy and stable). I bought the car for the little "around town" car and expected to keep the BMW for the long cruises, but now the little fit gets such great gas mileage that I'm using it for my 45 minute commute each way. There is some vibration, depending on the pavement, but that may be due to the fact that it is December and I put snow tires on the car right away. The car is built in Japan and of excellent build quality, but the components are inexpensive and a few of the plastic parts do not fit perfectly. I bought the car for the basic build on a traditional platform, great gas mileage, not a hybrid. I hope the car will be a solid performer for years to come, it is a Honda after all."

Zippy, Fun, Cute, Quality

"The Fit is a pleasure to drive and very zippy. The seats are super comfy. Even the base model is loaded with features. The only thing I miss is the greater feeling of stability on the road that I had with my 1995 Honda Civic. "Zippy" can easily turn into "herky-jerky" in a Fit. I have to take mountain curves more slowly, for example. I'm getting used to it. For the price, you can't get a better vehicle."

"I smile every time I look at that beautiful turquoise color. We've had black, white, gray, and brown cars for long enough. Rated as Consumer Reports "Best Overall Small Economy Car", it gets close to 40 mpg, has lots of light coming in, and the back seats fold down flat for a lot of cargo space for things like . . paintings."

"We looked over most of the compact wagons via the internet & on the lots. We selected the Fit because: (1)it had the most storage for its size; (2)the seats folded flat;(3) it gave good mpg. We do like the way the car handles(like a sports car); its very comfortable for a small car; nicely appointed interior, good speaker sound quality, etc. In summary, we just like the car!"

"The newest Honda Fit can get in and out of tight spots with aplomb. It looks good, works well and handles perfectly. Gas mileage is great. The price could be lower, but it compares well with what's in the very small car market. One caveat: No floor mats come with it, just a tiny piece of plastic on the driver's side. I mean who does that? Really? No mats?"

First new car I've ever owned

"We set out to buy a newer used car. But between the high prices and interest rates for pre-owned vehicles and the great rates available on new vehicles, we ended up buying new for the first time in my life. As an empty nest couple, we wanted something smaller and economical on gas, but with good cargo space. We reviewed a number of vehicles, eventually focusing on three Japanese brands: Honda, Scion and Nissan. Nissan and Honda both gave us ample time and trial opportunity and we loved both the Versa and the Fit. Scion's xD looked like it would be a good candidate too, but the dealer was unenthusiastic about giving us the same trial opportunity, so we compared Versa and Fit. Both were great cars, great local dealers, but we went with Honda's Fit in the end because it was only a little more money for a lot more warranty."

FEAR OF THE FIT

"I've had a FIT for 3 years. I am so afraid of this car due to the blind spots. Just found out (internet) that many others have had the same problem . I was confused--what am I doing wrong as I'm very cautious when passing? Now I know it's the car. I had several near misses when passing in 3 years (once even glanced a bicyclist who was invisible to me) . I just can't see vehicles and bikes coming up along the sides using the side mirrors. This is a huge design flaw in the FIT . Honda did everything else right--why not fix this dangerous situation? Drive it first to see how it feels with your line of sight. And be careful!"
