Expert 2013 Honda Ridgeline review

Vehicle Overview

This four-door, five-passenger truck breaks from traditional truck design with its unitized body construction rather than the body-on-frame designs used by other truck manufacturers. While many avid truck aficionados don’t like this type of construction, Honda capitalizes on it by providing extra interior room and cargo space, along with good handling performance.

The Ridgeline comes in RT, Sport, RTS and RTL trim levels. The Sport model is geared toward four-wheel-drive fans and comes with a host of exterior and interior changes, but nothing that actually gives the vehicle better off-road performance other than black alloy 18-inch aluminum wheels.
New for 2013
A backup camera is newly standard for 2013.
Exterior
The Sport model adds some features to the RT, including black alloy 18-inch aluminum wheels and a black honeycomb grille with black surround. The headlight and taillight housings are also black, and a set of fog lights are included.

The 5-foot-long cargo bed features eight tie-down locations. The tailgate can open from the top down, like a traditional tailgate, or from the side, left to right, to access the 8.5-cubic-foot in-bed trunk that allows for storage under the cargo bed. Exterior features include:

  • 17- or 18-inch wheels
  • Four cargo area lights
  • Available power moonroof

Interior
The Ridgeline’s interior is spacious; it feels like you’re in a full-size pickup rather than a midsize one. There is a large center console with a tray and hidden storage area. Honda goes one step further and creates storage compartments that fit your mobile phone, CDs, water bottles and more. The 60/40-split rear bench seats fold down to create more cargo space inside the truck. Interior features include:

  • Great storage compartments for gadgets and gear
  • Sport model features leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls
  • Ergonomic and comfortable driving position

Under the Hood
The Ridgeline’s 3.5-liter V-6 with variable valve timing produces 250 horsepower and 247 pounds-feet of torque. The automatic Variable Torque Management four-wheel-drive system improves traction and towing performance by applying torque to all four wheels when needed. Mechanical features include:

  • Engine uses regular gas
  • Five-speed automatic transmission

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Side-impact airbags for the front seats
  • Side curtain airbags
  • Active front head restraints
  • Antilock brakes
  • Electronic stability system

Purchase the Ridgeline used. I like the way it drives and handles. Used through several home renovations handled loads fine. One major problem with all Ridgeline roof racks they leak all four stanchions in the car show leakage Honda refuses to admit it's their problem

  • Very great pickup

I have 389,xxx miles and it still runs just fine. One thing I’ve noticed is some electrical issues with the driver side window switch and the interior button lights are only halfway working and tend to go completely out but will come back on if I switch the headlight knob off & back on. I love the 2-way open tailgate & bed trunk.

  • Very good truck.

I bought this truck used, not even really wanting it to begin with. But after driving a few other vehicles that I wanted first, I am really glad I got this instead. It has even a better feel than most cars I have ridden in. It doesn't have the bulky body roll when going around corners. I do wish the bed was a little bigger. But I really like the hidden trunk.

  • 2013 Ridgeline Sport with 114,600 miles

After owning 11 Honda’s/Acura’s over the past 25 years, when I needed a pickup, my choice was a 7 year old Ridgeline Sport with 3 previous owners and 114,600 miles. This truck was absolutely the best choice for a previously owned vehicle. I have uses it as a truck, hauling just about everything, and it lives up to the durability of the Honda pedigree.

  • Drives like an SUV. Comfortable, reliable, useful

I love this pickup... it’s not just very practical and reliable, it’s safe, fun to drive, and attractive also. It never let me down, and I was easily able to tow small U-Haul trailers.

  • MY THIRD RIDGELINE

I HAVE OWNED AN 06.08, AND NOW A 2013 RTL. LOVE THES TRUCKS. I TOW A 3500 24 FT KEYSTONE PASSPORT CAMPER. GO TO MOUNTAINS AND THE OBX, NO PROBLEM. I FIND HIGHTEST GAS IS BEST FOR TOWING MY CAMPER. I GET 10 MPG INSTEAD OF 7MPG TOWING AND MORE POWER. OTHERWISE I USE REG. GAS 23 ON THE ROAD.

  • All the truck you will ever need!

Haul 8 foot sheets of plywood - no problem. Tow a 5000 lb. rated tilt bed trailer - no problem. Ride in the cab - excellent (even the backseat is comfortable at 6' tall. 24 mpg max so far - could use another road gear. 4x4 low locks rear differential and this machine will go through snow! Couple or air bag recalls - other than that 37,000 trouble free miles. Sport model has a great look.
