"To all of you out there saying how its the best car you have ever owned and your favorite car, i feel embarrased for you. That was once me too. about a month ago. This past month has been a living nightmare. In the process of researching my options as what to do about my failing engine, I have learned there is a bulletin out on the vehicle. Google websites that you can check current recalls and bulletins on and keep track. Right now the engine 2.4 liter 4 sp auto. is incredibly unreliable and defected as it seizes as soon as the warranty is up, with no warning, indicator lights, over heating, nothing. If a filter is used other than a Hyundai filter, the oil will be sucked up and the car will knock and the engine destroyed. PLEASE, if you had had any problems file a formal online complaint with The U.S. Dept of transportation. And with Hyundai. If I were you I'd be sure to trade it in before it reaches the warranty date otherwise."

"I bought my 2007 GLS Sonata 6 years ago with 6 miles on it. It currently has 132,000 miles. Fluid changes, air filters, spark plugs, brakes and on S belt. All your normal maintenance. It has started everytime and has performed very well. I am about to sell the car and if you were going to buy a 2007 GLS Sonata ( hopefully with less miles than mine ) you are making a great decision."

"I enjoy my Sonata, I have owned it for about 3 years. I just keep running into minor irritations that are beginning to become bothersome. The windows, for example, keep breaking. Actually, the cord attached to the motor that pulls the windows up and down is snapping. I have had to replace two of them already. Also, the visor hinges crack which causes the visor to hang down as though its limp and lifeless...not much for blocking the sun at this point. These seem so minor, but the cost to repair is insane. I would recommend the Sonata to a friend with a couple warning labels attached."

"We currently have 4 Hyundais in the driveway. 2 Sonatas, 1 Elantra, 1 Santa Fe. Ergonomically excellent. Can go from 1 to the other and KNOW where the controls are. EXCELLENT fit & finish. Interior well thought out. Customer-centric. Cannot say 1 thing bad about any of the years and any of the models."

"This is my wifes car and she loves it except for two things. She has a bad back and it is a sporty low ground hugging type vehicle. So it is hard for her to get in and out.The only other thing is that even though the seat is lumbar adjustable it just gets to be painful after about twenty minutes driving to work. The gas mileage is great for a six cylinder. The car is peppy to drive,in that it accelerates quickly and has a smooth ride.It has an excellent sound system, and handles like a dream in good or inclement weather. If not for her back,we would probably have purchased another Sonata.Never had any mechanical problems in 55,000 miles."

"About all you can credit hyundai for here is keeping up with the times. Each new generation it seems yields huge strides in showroom appeal and minor improvements in actual quality. Lets start with the positive. If your used to driving 4 cylinder full sized sedan, you should be happy with the power. There is more than the 0-60 time would suggest, since its impossible to launch this thing without spinning the front tires. The transmission is a textbook slushbox, winding up over 2000rpms before settling in. Even in top gear (4th) on the highway, there is almost 1000 rpms of slush. The engine sounds like its about to grenade anytime north of 4500 rpms, but it does pull smoothly, and the powerband is very good from idle to redline (assuming the transmission would learn to do its job). But lets keep going with positives. The design is pretty good inside and out, there is tons of space, the stereo has decent sound quality, and the lights are bright. OK, thats about it. One single solitary cigarette was smoked in this car over a year ago, and it still reeks any time its parked all day in the sun. The smell seems to be coming from the headliner. The warranty is a total joke. First off, radio knob failed at 10k. Not covered. Steering wheel is stuck to the right since new, not a safety issue. Car thunks on any down-then-up bump, dealer doesn't care. i think its the strut mount, sounds like its coming from right under the hood. The rear creaks on the bottom of my driveway, or any steep overhang, whatever says Mr. Hyundai. After witnessing how the warranty basically only covers life-threatening defects that speak for themselves, I'd never ever buy a hyundai or kia product again. By the way, this review is being written about a car that only has 13,000 miles on it! The whole body sounds like a marble in a can if you thwack your thumb against it. The paint looks great, but scratches more easily than any of my german cars. The center armrest is made of a ghastly material that would be better suited to the floor of the back row of a police car. The car beeps 12 times every time i start it, and beeps at you mercilessly any time you take off your seatbelt (even in park) or open the door. Its loud, irritating, and unnecessary. I asked the dealer to disable it, but they refused. The steering feels like moving a tiller on a boat thats floating in molasses. I say this with no exaggeration: its the worst steering i've ever felt in any vehicle i've ever driven, including farm tractors and 18 wheelers. Directional stability is horrible. I consider myself to be a very good driver. When I was a teenager, I came in 2nd behind the state champion in mountain biking, not a sport for people who can't steer cars around bends. I've almost lost it and wrecked hitting big bumps at 60 miles per hour on the highway. The 4 corners of the car are constantly conspiring against each other, it feels worse than a cab that has a shot rear end and floats left to right. At least the cab keeps going straight. Handling is actually pretty good once you load one side, but only on a surface as smooth as glass. Bump steer is laughably bad. Seriously, it'll give you the giggles. You barely ever get 30mpg on the highway, even with the tires pumped up to 38 and the cruise control set to 65 I get only get 29. The car this replaced, a 1998 camry, was much slower, granted, but only weighed a couple hundred pounds less, scored 28 on the epa test, and regularly got 34 no problem. And it didn't have high-mileage tires. It feels like every plastic cover for a screw has fallen off at least once. The window switch feels like you've broken it every single time you initiate the one-touch-down feature. In conclusion, i think of my underwear as a piece of fabric between myself and my zipper. If you think of a car as a set of tires between you and the road, you'll be happy with this car. If you have any eye for quality whatsoever, skip it. Compared to my 2001 passat, this car is larger. And that's about it. The passat is quieter, gets better mileage, has a vastly better interior, has a dealer that stands behind the product, has a smooth engine that feels like it will last forever, has a better sound system, far superior transmission, infinitely superior directional stability and handling, solid body panels, quiet and smooth trunk operation, doors that have solid perforations for staying open in the wind, on an incline, etc, a non-labrynth transmission gate... the list goes on and on."

"I searched for about two months before buying a 2007 Hyundai Sonata GLS with 62k miles. The car has a reasonably comfortable ride & gets 8-10 mpg better than my truck. I bought the car as a commuter and those were two major factors right there. I'm getting almost 23mpg now, but I only commute about 15 miles one way. I think I'd see better mileage with a longer trip. The standard safety features were another major influence on buying this car. So many competitors had these options only in their upper trim levels. So far, I'm happy with the Sonata."
