New for 2013
Besides the new Veloster Turbo, the regular Veloster can now have optional Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires.
Exterior
From all angles, the Veloster looks like no other car. Its far-out design will draw comparisons with the Nissan Juke, but a longer, lower and slightly wider stature makes the Hyundai more of a car than a crossover.
Hyundai says the Veloster's styling was inspired by high-performance motorcycles, and the black A-pillars are meant to give the windows the appearance of a wraparound helmet shield. Exterior features include:
- Passenger-side rear door
- Standard 17-inch alloy wheels; 18-inch wheels optional
- Headlights with LED accents
- Rear spoiler
- Optional grille with chrome surround and piano-black accents
- Optional fog lights
- Optional panoramic moonroof
Interior
Like the exterior, and perhaps even more so, the interior's shapes recall the front of a sport bike. The backseat accommodates two with limited headroom and legroom that depends greatly on how much the front occupants require. Because the curbside rear door is front-hinged, it can be opened independently of the front door, an improvement over other three-door models.
The Veloster also features Hyundai's Blue Link telematics system, a cellular-enabled suite of features similar to GM's OnStar. Features in the Essentials package include voice text messaging, remote door unlock, remote start, alarm notification, diagnostics and maintenance alerts, a recall adviser, stolen vehicle slowdown and recovery, and more. Blue Link Guidance provides turn-by-turn navigation, point-of-interest search and traffic features separate from the optional navigation system. Interior features include:
- Standard cloth upholstery; available cloth and simulated leather
- Standard 7-inch touch-screen display
- Standard Bluetooth connectivity, MP3 jack, USB port, RCA jacks and Pandora internet radio support with a connected iPhone
- Optional Dimension premium audio
- Optional push-button start
Under the Hood
A 1.6-liter direct-injection four-cylinder engine powers the Veloster. Mechanical features include:
- Front-wheel drive
- 138 horsepower with six-speed manual transmission
- 132 hp with six-speed dual-clutch automatic
- Engine uses regular gas
Safety
Safety features include:
- Antilock brakes
- Electronic stability system with traction control
- Side-impact airbags for the front seats
- Side curtain airbags
- Available backup camera
Veloster Turbo
The new Veloster Turbo features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 201 hp and 195 pounds-feet of torque. Buyers can choose either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Additional mechanical work includes sport-tuned steering, exhaust and suspension.
Aggressive styling enhancements include a unique front bumper with LED accents, fog lights, ground effects, an optional matte-gray color and Turbo-specific 18-inch wheels with chrome inserts. Toward the back, LED taillights join a restyled rear bumper that features a diffuser and a center-mounted exhaust.
Inside, heated leather seats feature "Turbo" stitching on the seatbacks. A Dimension premium stereo is standard while navigation and a backup camera are optional. Back to top
