Vehicle Overview

The five-seat Infiniti FX is a luxury crossover that emphasizes sportiness over utility. It is sold as the V-6-powered FX37 and as the V-8-powered FX50, covered in a separate report in the Cars.com Research section.  It competes with a number of luxury crossovers, from the Lexus RX 350 to the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and BMW X5. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the FX37, and all-wheel drive is optional.

New for 2013

The FX's previous 303-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 makes way for a 325-hp, 3.7-liter V-6. With the new engine, the model name changes to FX37 from FX35. The Limited Edition model is available in Moonlight White with Graphite interior color.

Exterior

The FX's beady headlights and rakish shape are at least as controversial as those elements on its predecessor, if not more so. Along the side, functional air vents reduce the FX's lift, Infiniti says. Exterior features include:

  • Standard bi-xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights
  • Standard 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Available 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels

Interior

The cabin has a high dashboard, and a ledge just below the windshield curls around to the window sills. Air-conditioning and stereo controls sit below an available navigation display in the center control panel. The leather seats are available with quilted center inserts. Power adjustments for the front seats are standard. Interior features include:

  • Standard reclining rear seat
  • Standard Bluetooth connectivity
  • Standard dual-zone climate control
  • Standard power liftgate
  • Standard USB input for MP3 players
  • Standard heated front seats
  • Optional ventilated front seats

Under the Hood

The FX37's new 3.7-liter V-6 makes 325 hp and teams with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Mechanical features include:

  • Rear- or all-wheel drive
  • 2,000-pound towing capacity (AWD)

Safety

The optional Around View Monitor camera system adds moving-object detection capability. Standard safety features include active front head restraints, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows. Traction control, an electronic stability system and four-wheel-disc antilock brakes are also standard. Safety features include:

  • Optional lane departure prevention system
  • Optional adaptive cruise control
  • Optional forward warning system can apply the brakes in the event of an impending collision
