EXCELLENT VALUE FOR A SPECIFIC GROUP OF DRIVERS

by Car enthusiast architect from Pasadena, CA | March 29, 2015

The IS-F is indeed an unique vehicle. It's the first serious performance car from Lexus, and the first model that started the F campaign(yes it came before the LFA).And yet it looks very similar to the incredibly popular IS series that's filling the roads of every city. The updated 2011 version is a tad slower than the BMW M3 on the track, but what you lose in slight performance you gain in better styling vs the sedan, reliability, cost of maintenance and more economical.Because it looks similar to the rest of the IS,it doesnt attract too much attention, and that can be a good thing.U drive it as a daily driver while having all that power under the hood, and not having to worry about it ever breaking down.Being a lexus,it has great interior quality, comes loaded with standard convenient features and electronics(Navigation, mark levinson sound system, bluetooth, moonroof, keyless entry, tpms) ,4 doors and a decent sized trunk.Just changing a catback system will get it to be about 435hp,without doing anything else.It comes standard with BBS forged 19" wheels, limited slip differential, brembo brakes with drilled rotors,HID etc. It's never obnoxious, highway driving is comfy and quiet, and thanks to its 8 speed automatic,I can get 28 mpg highway cruising out a 400+ hp car. This car sleeps and try to be economical under 3500 rpm,and starts to growl and releases its torque beyond that point. The 8 speed transmission is very smooth, and when properly warmed up,it upshifts incredibly fast like a dual clutch manual. Most of the cons of the car applies to the rest of the IS line as well: small cabin space, tight rear seats, only 1 cup holder and limited interior cabin storage,head-heavy handling characteristics. It's not super good looking but certainly not ugly either. The sport seats in the ISF provides great support, but the car does have a firm suspension so it drives quite unlike your typical Lexus. It can get jittery at times, but completely bearable.Since it's a 8 speed auto, downshifting can be slow at times. With the heavy v8 engine and transmission,it is quite heavy at about 3800lb,though much lighter than most of the German competitors with 4 wheel drive or even bigger engines.Since it has a v8, mpg isnt that great if u drive a lot of local streets. But once on the freeway ur mpg starts to get to 20+ avg. Competition wise,it's more economical and less obnoxious than the AMG, better styling, more economical than the M3 and better fit and finish than the Cadillac.Yes the reliability wins hands down, which is not something to be taken lightly. You can have more fun with the car, spend less time going to the dealers for the famous BMW check engine lights. For those with tighter wallets, you drain less cash doing computer diagnostics dealing with the german electronic problems.Plus you enjoy, for the most part, cheap toyota parts and labor to keep it running at such low costs. The biggest expense on running this car is probably the tires, which is expected for sporty cars.So if u can appreciate this delicate balance of v8 performance, looks, exclusivity, superb reliability, low running costs, practicality of a sedan, low depreciation of a lexus and low profile look,u will love this IS-F and it is a very unique vehicle in its own place

It is not worth it.

by 1000 Horses from syracues, ny | April 7, 2014

I owned, and sold it quickly before it was too late. What's wrong with the car? Just look at its competitors from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. I have drove all of them, IS-F can not compete with any of them on any level. And the 60000+ sticker price? Are you kidding me? Really wish I did my research before I bought the car, so I could save myself from losing the couple thousands of dollars. Anyway this Lexus IS-F is only good at one thing - being reliable. Well, it is a toyota after all.

Boy do you get what you pay for!

by ISF Fan!! from Washington | January 8, 2014

Purchased a 2011 LEXUS ISF and have been more than happy with this incredible car! Fit and Finish is impeccable, performance is to much for the average driver, reliability top notch. I am very picky about my cars and I just can't find anything wrong with it. I guess if their was one thing to note, gas mileage is not great but what do you expect from a 420 horsepower car. This car is worth the money!!

Thrilling drive, every time.

by Kyle from Phoenix, AZ | June 6, 2011

I have been hunting for an IS-F for quite some time and finally decided to pull the trigger on the 2011. At 6'1, the highest praise I have for this car is the amount of comfort even I achieve during every drive. It just feels like a car that was built around me. I also own a vette and let me tell you, this 5.0L V8 will give my vette a run for it's money, if not beat it. Beautiful styling inside and out. Only 2 complaints: 1. Turning radius is quite high for a sedan. 2. Sticker price. I promise you will not be disappointed in this car, it's as close to perfect as an automobile can get.
