Vehicle Overview

Lexus' flagship LS 460 full-size sedan is available in standard form and as a limousine-like long-wheelbase LS 460 L model that stretches 205 inches from bumper to bumper — 5 inches more than the standard model. The LS can seat up to five people, and both sizes are available with rear- or all-wheel drive. Competitors include the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

A hybrid version of the LS 460 L sedan, dubbed LS 600h L, is covered separately in the Cars.com Research section. Lexus adds a new F Sport model to the LS lineup for 2013.

New for 2013

The LS 460 wears a new spindle-style grille, which has been spreading across Lexus' lineup, and the standard suspension features new shock absorbers designed to provide better body control. The steering and braking systems have also been revised. Drivers can now choose from Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes, and also Comfort and Sport when the car is fitted with the optional air suspension. The LS 460's new dashboard design incorporates a 12.3-inch screen for the standard navigation system. The updated interior incorporates Lexus' Remote Touch interface, which operates systems like the radio and air conditioning with a controller located on the center console. The front seats have been redesigned for better comfort and sound insulation updates make for a quieter cabin, according to Lexus.

Exterior

The LS 460's new grille gives the sedan a much more aggressive appearance. The side mirrors have integrated turn signals, and 18-inch wheels are standard. Exterior features include:

  • Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights; LED headlights available
  • Power moonroof
  • Available 19-inch wheels
  • Available power rear sunshade

Interior

In the long-wheelbase variant, Lexus aims to replicate the environment of a business jet with an optional massaging 45-degree-reclining rear seat that includes an ottoman for leg support. Interior features include:

  • Standard navigation system with 12.3-inch screen
  • Bluetooth phone connectivity and streaming audio
  • Available Mark Levinson premium stereo
  • Available Blu-ray backseat entertainment system with a 9-inch screen
  • Long-wheelbase model offers an optional Executive Class Seating Package with a reclining right-side rear seat, a rear center console with a tray table, ventilation controls and a drink cooler

Under the Hood

The 4.6-liter V-8 engine works with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels or, optionally, all four wheels. Mechanical features include:

  • 386 horsepower and 367 pounds-feet of torque (rear-wheel drive)
  • 360 hp and 347 pounds-feet of torque (all-wheel drive)
  • Engine uses premium gas
  • Electric power steering
  • Available air suspension with selectable modes

Safety

The optional Advanced Pre-Collision System, which helps detect pedestrians and apply strong braking power, has a camera that monitors the orientation of the driver's face. It can activate warnings if the driver isn't looking ahead for more than a few seconds. Other safety features include:

  • Electronically controlled antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution
  • Electronic stability system
  • Side-impact airbags for the front seats
  • Side curtain airbags
  • Front knee airbags
  • Backup camera
  • Available rear-seat side-impact airbags
  • Available blind spot warning system
  • Available automatic high-beam headlights

LS 460 F Sport

Positioned as the engaging-to-drive LS, the new F Sport model is differentiated on the outside by its unique mesh grille with a black surround, larger cooling openings, round fog lights and F Sport badges. The exterior changes are complemented on the inside with sport seats, aluminum pedals, shift paddles on the steering wheel and a black Alcantara headliner. Performance-focused changes are relatively modest and consist of a lowered air suspension, a limited-slip differential for rear-wheel-drive versions, Brembo-brand brakes and 19-inch forged-aluminum wheels. The drivetrain is unchanged. Back to top
