Vehicle Overview
Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota, and the LX 470 is a full-size luxury version of the Toyota Land Cruiser SUV. The two are similarly styled and share mechanical components, but the LX 470 comes with more amenities and a higher price tag.
A DVD-based navigation system is a new option this year. It provides audio guidance and a video display when the transmission is in park and audio directions when the transmission is in a drive gear.
Exterior A different grille, headlamps and illuminated side running boards are the LX 470’s main appearance differences from the Land Cruiser. At 193 inches overall, the LX 470 is a foot shorter than the Lincoln Navigator.
Interior Though it is a foot shorter than the Lincoln Navigator, the LX 470 also holds eight passengers. Two front buckets and three-place middle and rear benches are standard, and all are trimmed in leather. The rear seat is split 50/50, and both halves fold outward and can be secured to the sides of the interior. The middle seat folds forward. The LX 470’s maximum cargo volume is 90 cubic feet, 26 less than the Navigator’s.
Under the Hood A 230-horsepower 4.7-liter V-8 engine (shared with the Land Cruiser) teams with a four-speed automatic transmission and permanently engaged four-wheel drive. A locking center differential, limited-slip rear differential and traction control also are standard.
Safety Standard features include antilock brakes, a skid-control system that applies the brakes to wheels individually as needed, and Brake Assist, which detects when the driver is making a panic stop and applies maximum braking force.
