Vehicle Overview

The GranTurismo is a four-seat grand touring car available as a coupe or a convertible with V-8 power. The GranTurismo competes with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Jaguar XKR and Mercedes-Benz CL550.

(Skip to details on the: GranTurismo Convertible)

New for 2012
The 4.2-liter V-8 that was the base engine has been discontinued, leaving a 4.7-liter V-8 as the lone engine in a revamped lineup. The S coupe and base convertible come with a 433-horsepower 4.7-liter, and the new MC coupe and Sport convertible have a 444-hp version of the V-8. Maserati’s Skyhook electronically adaptive suspension is standard on the Sport convertible and optional on the MC coupe.

Exterior
Maserati teamed with Italian design studio Pininfarina to style the GranTurismo. The car features a wide oval grille, a long nose and a short rear deck. It sits low to the ground and has a sleek, road-hugging profile. Exterior features include:

  • 19-inch wheels; 20-inch wheels available
  • Three air inlets behind front fender
  • Unique aerodynamic bodywork on GranTurismo MC
  • Grille features vertical concave slats
  • Available carbon fiber exterior trim on GranTurismo MC
  • Adaptive bi-xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights
  • Optional colored brake calipers

Interior
Maserati cloaks the interior in high-quality leather and wood and puts chrome accents on the dashboard. The GranTurismo seats four, and Maserati says two adults fit comfortably in the backseat. Interior features include:

  • Navigation system with 7-inch screen features a hard drive for storing music
  • Rear parking sensors standard; front sensors optional
  • Numerous interior material options, including Alcantara simulated-suede headliner and wood trim

Under the Hood
Maserati says the GranTurismo coupe can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 177 mph. Mechanical features include:

  • 433-hp, 4.7-liter V-8 on S coupe and base convertible
  • 444-hp, 4.7-liter V-8 on MC coupe and Sport convertible
  • Six-speed automatic transmission with four operating modes and paddle shifters
  • Available Skyhook adaptive suspension automatically adjusts shock-absorber firmness for different driving and road conditions

Safety
Safety features include:

  • Antilock brakes
  • Electronic stability system
  • Front- and side-impact airbags

GranTurismo Convertible
Known in most other markets as the Maserati GranCabrio, the GranTurismo convertible comes as a base model with the 433-hp V-8 or the new Sport model with the 444-hp engine. Because the convertibles weigh more, Maserati says the zero-to-60-mph acceleration drops slightly to 5.3 seconds. The top speed is 176 mph. Other details include:

  • Power-folding soft-top raises or lowers in 24 seconds
  • Performance exhaust system for Sport model
  • Optional carbon fiber exterior and interior trim available on Sport
  • Skyhook adaptive suspension standard on Sport
  • Pop-up rollover bars

  • Great combination of sport and comfort.

I’ve owned a 911 and several SL 550’s and this car is the perfect blend of both. No matter where I drive I get comments on the sound of the exhaust or the lines of the car.

  • Best Exotic Car

I had this car for about five years, and it was the ride of a life time. The exterior is so sleek and the interior is luxurious. The only thing that stunk was the streets. Where I live, the streets are terrible and I hit so many pot holes that blew my tires out. But if you life in a place with great streets, best car ever.

  • Most beautiful car I’ve owned

GTS is a real head turner and sounds awesome! Start up the 8 cylinder and listen to it growl. Comfortable cruiser. A Corvette owner stopped and said it was the best sound car. Great value!

  • This car is soooo fun to drive

I bought it for my wife and at first she was sort of thinking it was too much car for her but within a week or two she absolutely loved it. I love it to and even enjoy taking it up to the quarter car wash!

  • over rated vehicle

I also have owned tons of cars, but this car is a joke. 1. You'd expect a car with Ferrari engine goes kindda fast, but it's not the case with this one. 2. Car makes good loud noise, and you'd feel that you go fast, and than Audi or C class Benz just smoke you. 3. Car feels heavy ,and it's just too lazy, low end torque is zero, until you hit 7000 RPM car just won't move, that was not the case with my RS5. 4. You get lots of attractions though, mostly teenagers. 5. High maintenance, scheduling appointments, etc 6. Looks good in and out, best engine sound ever, useless in cold weather. 7. It's more as a grand tourer ,not a sports car.

  • The Best All-Around Car Ever

I've been fortunate in my life to drive and own several fine cars and my new all-time, all-around favorite is my Maserati Granturismo S. Hands down it ranks higher(est) in more areas than any of the other cars with my Porches coming in second. Ferrari's are amazing and give you a great feeling when driving but although they can be, they are not typically daily drivers. A Maserati for all intents and purposes is both a Ferrari and a daily driver (literally). Blindfold a person familiar with Ferrari and with one turn of the key he'll tell you he just started a Ferrari. But unlike the Ferrari's I've been involved with you don't have to worry about maintenance, e.g. My 2012 GTS has a 6 year, 100k warranty and Ferrari/Masseriti doesn't skimp on customer service (thanks Lance at Tonkin in Portland). It gets a lot of looks and compliments so be ready for that and the sound is like nothing most people have ever heard. I love Mercedes and BMW but everyone has them, which is part of my hesitation for writing this review. Bottom line if you're in the market for a daily drivable Ferrari that seats 4 comfortably at half the price you'd be cheating yourself not to test drive one and the rest will be history.
