Vehicle Overview

The Mazda CX-9 crossover seats up to seven in three rows and is available with front- or all-wheel drive. It competes with the Chevrolet Traverse, Hyundai Veracruz and Toyota Highlander.

New for 2012

There are no significant changes.

Exterior

The CX-9 has sleeker lines and a sportier look than most crossovers, especially large three-row ones. Exterior features include:

  • Standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels; available 20-inch wheels
  • Standard dual exhaust tips
  • Chrome door handles and turn-signal side mirrors (Grand Touring)
  • Available power liftgate
  • Available xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights
  • Available fog lights
  • Available moonroof

Interior

The second row's backrest can recline or fold flat, and the seat can slide fore and aft to optimize legroom and cargo space. There's room for two in the 50/50-split third-row seat, which also can fold flat. Interior features include:

  • Standard three-zone automatic climate control
  • Cloth seats standard; leather optional
  • Optional powered front seats
  • Available heated front seats
  • Available rear-seat entertainment system
  • Double-lid center console
  • Available Bose surround-sound system
  • Available navigation system

Under the Hood

The CX-9 features a 273-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 with 270 pounds-feet of torque. Front- and all-wheel drive are offered. An available Towing Prep Package for front-wheel-drive models includes a revised engine control module and a heavy-duty transmission oil cooler and radiator fan. It increases towing capacity from 2,000 to 3,500 pounds. Mechanical features include:

  • Standard six-speed automatic transmission with clutchless-manual mode
  • V-6 runs on regular gas

Safety

Safety features include:

  • Standard all-disc antilock brakes
  • Standard side-impact airbags for the front seats
  • Standard three-row side curtain airbags
  • Standard electronic stability system with Roll Stability Control
  • Optional backup camera
  • Optional blind spot warning system
