Consumer Reviews
"It is exactly what it is supposed to be. Holds 4 car seats and 2 adults (or 6 six adults), gets great gas mileage, is inexpensive compared to other mini-vans, etc, etc. What a fantastic little vehicle. It is comfortable, rides like a tight small car with good handling, and then hauls many people. I love it."

"The Mazda 5 is an incredible car. Reliable performer is the best description for this car/minivan. I've owned 3 Chrysler van over twenty years, and owned BMWs, Cadillacs, Toyotas and this car blends so many good qualities. In 98K I've replaced the battery, plugs, and just put on the 3rd set of tires. Brakes are original. It only gets 25-26 mpg on the road but it out handles all my other cars owned (17) except the BMW. I try not to put big adults in the third seats for a long trip, but other than that what a great hauler. I just wish the 2012 Mazda 5 were available now."

"After 20 years of Chrysler minivans, Chrysler abandoned me. Their minivans are too far from mini, and will not fit in my garage. I need the sliding doors to manuver in my standard 1.5 car garage, and I often carry 6 passengers. so I still needed a minivan. The gas milage is not much better than my old Chrysler minivans, and Mazda5 only has 4 cylinders, but the van isplenty peppy, even with 6 adult passengers, 2 of them over 250 pounds. I do not like the front console design which prevents me from sliding across the font seats without exiting the car, but no other mini-minivan had a better design. The controls are simple and do 5 times more than I need. I drove 4 adults on an 800 mile trip in October and it was very comfrotable and smooth and quiet. I have hauled loads of soil & compost and recyclables and the car cleans up easily. A dark tan inerior would have been preferable to the black which shows every speck, but was not available. I have only driven it for 2,000 miles in 2 months, but so far, it's a great car."

"I purchased my 2010 Mazda5 only about 5 months ago and so far it has been a very good, reliable car. I gave this only 4 stars for comfort, only because I am tall and I have difficulty getting my legs in under the steering wheel, but once in, everything is fine. Ditto for interior design where once in a while I hit the buttons on the radio/heating/air panels while shifting. The sliding side doors are a blessing and the room in the back pretty much matches my Equinox for space (with the third row down). Otherwise the ride is perfect, my manual transmission is easy, smooth and dependable. I had a slight issue once in a while in very wet weather on extreme hills with the soft tires where I have gone slightly sideways. The soft tires also have been known to have issues over bumpy roads (bending the rims, etc ) and my area is known for bad roads. So far this is the only issue that is a concern with my area's winter weather coming up. Mazda dealership claims I can't go to a slightly smaller winter tire with a larger steel rim (equal circumference) because I may void my warranty (even tho every conceivable online site recommends doing that for winter) - how in the heck that would mess up a transmission is beyond me and any mechanic I spoke with. They want to sell me 4 tires at double the price. This hurts the maximum enjoyment I have been getting from this car."

"My 4-star Comfort rating is because of my 70 yr age and 76 inch body, not because of the car itself. I wanted a van smaller than my previous one to run around town in and easily get our 2 little grandkids in and out of at the pizza joint parking lot. In other words I wanted a small car with sliding doors. This is the only car that met those wants. It's steering wheel and driver's seat adjustments make it very comfortable. I can flex my body enough to get in and out easy enough [wish I had leather seats though] and there is more than enough headroom, even with the sunroof. The ride is very good, the visibility is great, its performance is sufficient for working in Dallas traffic, it's very quiet on the hiway and its steering wheel radio/cruise controls are really handy. Size wise it was able to carry home 2 new folded in half foam bunk bed mattresses with both middle row seats up and in their rearward position. Four power windows is great, and the 2 heights when open rear hatch is good for my short wife and also me to stand under and then easily close. Loading groceries under the hatch in the rain was a real treat for her as compared to loading her previous 4-door sedan that had a trunk lid. I was and am very favorably impressed with all the nice features it has considering its relatively low price, and that includes the spare tire being inside under the floor and the rear seats folding into the floor, and the automatic fan speed/temp control of the a/c. It has less than 2000 miles on it so I can't comment on its ability to stay together ... I have great expectations, however and nothing has failed to date. My great amazement is that more of these are not sold to moms in the U.S. I can't believe any woman would want to fight getting kids/stuff in and out of hinged rear doors in a parking lot rather than having sliders ... every van salesman should make that part of his demo. My suggestions for improvements would include the addition of automatic on/off headlights and optional leather for the middle model."

""This is the second Mazda 5 we have owned. We leased the first in 2008 to see if we liked it, we liked it so much we traded it in and purchased a 2010, same color, make and model. With a young family and a short wife this car was made for her. She can get the kids in and out of the car very quickly becuase of how low to the ground the car is, as well as the rear sliding doors. We upgraded to include the navigation, DVD, and the best of all amenities, the auto start. My wife loves it, living in Texas, it is really hot, we do not currently have a garage, so starting the car inside of our kitchen and then going out to a cool car is great!" I would recomned this car to everyone, you can't beat the price for a six seater in this price range with leather and all the bells and whistles. Zoom Zoom""

"Overall good value for a crossover. It runs like a car but seating is for six and looks like a smaller min-van. Gets great gas mileage and has plenty of storage. I have put 5 adults with one in the way back and had plenty of leg room. So far I love this car."

"My dear husband bought me a 2010 Mazda 5 only two weeks ago. While it certainly isn't the coolest looking car, nor the quickest, it was obviously the smartest car for our family. We traded a 2003 VW Passat wagon which drove beautifully, but which cost a lot of money to repair. I considered buying a 2010 VW tdi Golf, but we were so cramped in that thing, even if it was a blast to drive. I also test drove a Nissan Cube which was fun, but not a very serious car, and a Honda Fit, which is as clever a car as the Mazda 5, but not nearly as well suited to family hauling. The Mazda 5 is not a race ready car, which is forcing me to relearn how to drive gently. For example, jack rabbit starts and last minute breaking are not really possible or a good idea. My 9 and 12 year old kids really love this car, and that is mainly why I picked it. They have so much leg room, head room and best of all DO NOT HAVE TO TOUCH EACH OTHER! They each get a captain's chair with their own armrests. While the car didn't take my breath away, it is growing on me. And it really is cute. I got the red one, and to me it looks like an inflated version of the Honda Fit, which I think is a really cute car too. One more thing I like, it takes regular gas. Our Passat only took premium fuel. My friends have been impressed with my new car, and I am glad I chose it. By the way, we have the Grand Touring with leather seats, which are really comfortable."
