"This is my 4th Mercedes Benz and it is a pretty decent car but nothing spectacular. I purchased it as used and I've had airmatic suspension problems from the start. It is so frustrating driving it and getting a message in red that says "stop- car is too low" "see repair shop". I took it to a non-dealer and got ripped off as they supposedly tried 4 times to repair it with a kit. Now whenever the weather gets cold, the car drops all the way down to the ground and has to be parked. I am taking it to the dealer again and this will be the last MB that I buy. MB had manufacture defects on this but never offically addressed it. It looks really nice but for a car priced at $72 MSRP, it is definitely not worth it! I would not allow a good friend to make the mistake of buying this car."

"Wow the S430 is really nice! I've had it since Feburary Of 2002 and has had only one problem with the tires. Otherwise this is my favorite car ever, and it is much better then my old car, the 1997 BMW 740!"

"Beautiful car, very expensive insurance, maintenance & repairs. Automatic Air suspension has failed and cost an arm & leg to replace, horrible gas mileage-gas guzzler, various other repairs that have added up to be quite costly. Not easy to find parts."

"Rides great but very very expensive to own, have averaged about $4600/year in repairs...whatever you think the repair should cost double or triple it since the S55 parts are in limited production and very expensive to install....having spent $111,500 for it new, I'm not sorry but you better have a healthy budget for repairs or the car will be sitting in your garage alot....is fast and rides smooth"

"I adore my Merc. Bought it late 2001 till now, 2008, 7 years and the biggest thing done to it are new tires, besides that, completely reliable! It was a S430V (apparently according to the salesman it's better in some ways than the base S430, i.e. 4bhp more and some extras) with some lovely upgrades (bi-xenon headlights & washers, Nappa leather, wood & leather steering wheel and shift gate). The transmission is still silky smooth, and the air suspension has not failed once. The engine is not the most powerful but still quite nippy. In general; reliable, comfortable, and I absolutely adore it. Merc's dealer network is very friendly and helpful (at least at my dealer), but they charge you for every single little thing!"
