Vehicle Overview

Mercedes-Benz's small retractable-hardtop roadster comes with a choice of V-6 engines but no longer comes as a V-8-powered AMG performance model. The SLK55 AMG has been discontinued. Competitors for the SLK-Class include the BMW Z4 and Audi TT.

New for 2011

Only minor changes are in store for the 2011 models, which go on sale in June. The SLK350 rides on new 18-inch split five-spoke wheels, and both the SLK300 and SLK350 come standard with the sport body styling, which includes a revised front air dam, side skirts, a rear apron and a trunk spoiler. Previously, those features were part of the Sport Package. Mercedes' new "mbrace" telematics system is standard, and among new features is the ability to lock and unlock doors remotely through a smartphone.

Exterior

The SLK features an arrow-shaped nose with a long hood, a steeply sloped windshield and taut body lines, and its retractable hardtop goes up or down in 22 seconds.

The SLK-Class' two-seat cabin has standard leather and simulated suede upholstery.

Under the Hood

The 3.0-liter V-6 in the base SLK300 makes 228 horsepower, while the 3.5-liter V-6 in the SLK350 has 300 hp.
