"this car is the most fun of any i have ever owned. i leave the hard top on in the winter and drive with the top down in the summer. it gets 33 mpg on average and i have never had any trouble with it. it zips around in traffic with ease and is small enough to park anywhere."

"The Mercury Capri ended up in my hands because it was the least expensive car I could find anywhere. I got my money's worth and then some. Even though it's not the most reliable car, I enjoyed it for what it was: a good drive in sunny weather. Features: My Capri included such features as air conditioning (never failed to blow cold air), AM/FM cassette player (half-broken, which I replaced with a CD radio), automatic transmission (reliable for the first year), and that was about it for amenities. The 1.6L base engine never failed to work, but in the mountains it struggled to pull, mostly due to an old transmission that never got replaced. Occasionally I would have to park alongside the road to allow it to cool. The Capri was a pleasure to steer through the curves, but its engine never delivered like a true sports car should. The Capri is cramped but that's fine for those under six feet. The back seat is uncomfortable for most adults. I had many maintainence issues with the Capri. That is why I wouldn't recommend it. The one problem I never did solve was its tendency to overheat when idle, in slow city traffic and climbing up hills. It also suffered from periodic water leaks on rainy days due to the poor design of the soft top. Perhaps the best thing about the Capri is its great gas mileage. Using special techniques (no A/C, shift into neutral and then later rev matching) on long trips I was able to draw almost 37 mpg out of it. Without these hypermiling methods, fuel economy in the automatic is about 30 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city."
