Vehicle Overview

Nissan has replaced the Versa hatchback model with an updated version for 2014, calling it the Versa Note and placing it a bit more upscale than the entry-level sedan. Featuring distinctly different styling than the sedan, the Note comes with a surprisingly large passenger cabin with significant legroom for both front and rear passengers.

Power comes from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making 109-horsepower mated to either a five-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT). The combination lets the Versa Note to hit 40 mpg on the highway, putting it competitive with other sub-compacts in the category like the Ford Fiesta and Chevrolet Sonic. A full suite of connectivity options are available from navigation system to a hands-free text message reader.

Exterior
The Versa Note departs from the Versa sedan in the styling department, but is still identifiable as a Nissan, from the front at least. Interior
Inside, the Versa Note features a spacious passenger cabin with legroom front and rear that stands out in the segment. Gauges are large and clear, seats are comfortable and covered in cloth, and despite being rather narrow inside, details like a driver's armrest and scalloped headliner for more headroom make this an acceptable place to spend some time. The various controls, however, are a step down in quality feel from the previous generation.Under the Hood
The Versa Note is powered by the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine in the Versa sedan, making 109 horsepower. That power hits the front wheels through either a five-speed manual transmission in the base model only or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in higher trims. Safety
Nissan plans on including dual-stage front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and roof-mounted curtain airbags in the Versa Note. The full complement of electronic stability control systems will be standard as required by law, including Vehicle Dynamic Control, antilock brakes, traction control and a tire pressure monitoring system
