Consumer Reviews
"I like the styling and handling very much. There are a couple of nagging things; turn signals that sometime don't work and a nagging "service engine soon" that comes on for a variety of reasons that never seem to be the same. Performance is great, but the mileage doesn't seem to be up to par with a '99 Grand Am I had prior to this car."

"This car has been a pretty good daily driver for me. The only thing I can truly complain about is the high cost of electrical issues I've had. The electrical problems I've had are the: multi-function switch, hazard switch(under recall), pass-lock censor(completely disabled my car), and ignition cylinder. The rest of it was pretty much just maintenance. Not a bad car though. I have the 5speed 4 cylinder, and I always average over 30MPGs. Not too bad, but I definitely prefer an import..."

"Four years ago, I purchased a used 2002 Gran AM that had 21,000 miles on it. I can safely say that this was the best car I've ever owned. I just recently traded it in and the dealer was amazed that I got over 200,000 miles on it!During the four years I had it,the only things that I've replaced (besides tires) were the fuel pump, ignition cluster and one of the O2 sensors. The fuel pump went out at around 156,000 miles, and the other things went after that. I would highly reccommend this style car for a teen or college student."

"I miss this car! I bought it new in 2002 and had it for 5 great years. My Mom has it now and after 80,000 miles the car still runs great! The seats are comfy, and its a fairly decent ride. I drove it 5 days a week into NYC when I got a job there early in the morning. I have put this car through misery for years upon years...and other then the bad brakes on this car and a problem with the computer, this car has done me well. The interior plastics are very cheap and it shows after use. The blinker busted but that was a recall. But other then that, it served me very very well. I miss my Grand Am!"

"I bought this car used and I'm the 3rd owner. I bought it in Oct 2005 with 50,000 miles on it for $10,900. I have had no major problems with it what-so-ever. I have had to get a new break caliper due to a faulty gasket. I've heard about the intake manifold gasket giving other people problems too. My father has a 2001 GT and he has had that problem. I hear it leaks oil into the coolent, which causes all sort of problems. There should be a recall on this. High winds cause you to grip the steering wheel as the car will get blown about. Starting can be a problem. Sometimes I have to crank it twice to start. The brakes aren't really that great at stopping as I've had with other cars. The dash is starting to curl up because of the cheap plastic that they used on it. There is no dipstick for the transmission fluid, which stinks. It says to change after 150,000, but that seems far fetched. The supsension is very sensitive. You can feel every crack in the road. Now for the good part. It is really easy to change the oil, belts, bulbs, speakers and the air filter. For those do-it-yourself people, it is very easy to work on. The 2001 GT has a tension lever for the belts, but not on the 2002. Why is that? It's an easy fix for $10! My 2002 GT is very comfotable. The stereo is great and it is easy to replace the speakers when you blow them out. It manuvers extremely well. Plenty of room all over, including the trunk. I plan on keeping it until 200,000 miles. I had a Pont Grand Am 1995. It lasted 10 years in harsh driving environments and made it to 225,000 without engine or trany troubles. Be prepared with any GM to have to service at least one major component after 100,000 miles. But then again, that's with any car you buy."

"My first car was a 2002 Grand Am GT coupe, Polo Green with a sunroof, Cd player chrome wheels and an atuomatic. I bought it with 48,000 miles on it. The first few weeks were ok, but then the problems began. First, there isnt any kind of low batterty warning, so I had to get the car towed, then the leather boot started to come loose. Then after a rainstorm I had to get an exhaust replacement, then the weatherstripping on the rear window came loose and I had water damage. Then the car wouldnt start a second time and I had to get a cylinder lock replaced. Lastly, the brakes didnt last at all and this car is not stable in high winds at all. The interior is very cheap in materials and design. The panel gaps are huge, the back of the car wasnt aligned correctly, you could slip a cell phone inside the gap in the dash, the sunroof looked like it wasnt aligned with the angle of the roof, the radio button paint started to wear off, you could feel the metal in the seats and the car rode very roughly and noisley. The only good thing about this car was the smooth shifting of the tranny and the engine. its pretty peppy. Other than that, I will never buy another American made car ever again. You get what you pay for."

"I just bought an 02' Pontiac with the 2.2L I4, with the 5speed manual. I don't have the power windows, but power everything else. I'm having trouble with the Power Locks when I'm trying to lock the car. I know it's supposed to give you a couple seconds before it locks and then beep, but it's not doing that. Also when I'm trying to cold start the car, It sometime just clicks when I turn the key over. It has started everytime I tried, just not every time I turned the key. Further, the handling is great, I love the sound of the car. It's nice and quiet in the inside, motor sounds good. I bought it used with 67k miles. I'll update after 3months to see how it goes."
