Vehicle Overview

Based on Porsche's Boxster series, the two-seat Cayman S is meant for speed. A 295-horsepower engine combines with advanced handling features in a sleek, aerodynamic package.

A six-speed-manual transmission is standard, but a five-speed Tiptronic automatic with a manual-shift provision is available. The Cayman S hits dealerships in January 2006.

Exterior

The Cayman S is distinctly Porsche, but it does have some unique styling cues. The curved rear fenders, side air intakes and dual sport tailpipes enhance its coupe silhouette. An automatically extending rear spoiler accents the trunk. An optional aluminum roof rack for transporting equipment such as skis or a bicycle can be installed. The Cayman S rides on 18-inch tires.

Interior

Although it's based on the Boxster series, the Cayman S offers twice as much rear storage space at 9.2 cubic feet; a net secures smaller pieces of cargo. A semitransparent lattice surrounds the instrument panel, which holds aluminum-colored dials. A CD player is standard, and two optional sound packages are offered: the Porsche Sound Package Plus and the Bose Surround Sound System. Sport seats with a memory function are available.

Under the Hood

An all-new 295-hp, 3.4-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder aluminum engine is positioned just behind the front seats. The Cayman S can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, with a top track speed of 171 mph. A six-speed-manual transmission borrowed from the Boxster S is standard, and a five-speed Tiptronic automatic that's specifically tuned for the Cayman S is optional.

An optional Porsche Active Suspension Management System allows the driver to switch the suspension settings at the touch of a button.

Safety

Red, four-piston, monobloc aluminum brake calipers make deceleration as smooth as acceleration. Porsche ceramic composite brakes can be installed.

The Porsche Stability Management electronic stability system is installed on all Cayman S models.
