"Before deciding for the Forester I test drove the Outback and the Honda CR-V. The Honda was a roomier, more comfortable car with more features and slightly less fuel efficient. However, the Honda rode more like a typical SUV and was bumpy and noisy. The Outback was the smoothest, most comfortable car but was also the longest, being a wagon crossover. The Outback base model offers a decent package though. In my opinion, the Forester was more maneuverable, and fun to drive. The Subarus performed better in harsh weather than the Honda with their real AWD which is what I was looking for. Fuel filling is very efficient for a car its size."

"When my car was totaled recently I asked several people at work what they would recommend for a replacement. I had four Subaru owners rave about how much they loved their cars. After some Internet research I decided that the Forester would be a good choice. After a short test drive I decided to go with the Forester Sport. After driving the car for 1,000 miles I have to say that it was the wrong choice. I find the engine, drive train and road noise to be excessive. Also, I find the interior features to be lacking compared to other brands. Most annoying is the "sport" aluminum clutch pedal. When wearing wet shoes my foot has slipped off the pedal during shifting. The overall clutch and shifter feel are also not smooth. On the plus side, the handling in snow is very good and I like the feature that prevents the car from rolling backwards when in first gear on a hill. Body fit and finish is also very good. The standard (non-turbo) motor has plenty of power for highway driving and overall handling is very good. In summary I think that this is a good, but not a great car."
