Consumer Reviews
"I wanted a car that felt roomy yet fit in a very small garage and was easy to drive on narrow city streets. The Subaru Forrester fit the bill. On top of that, it handles well and is a joy to drive."

"This is our third vehicle by Subaru. I loved my 2001 Outback until someone pulled a U-turn into it. With each new Subaru, we have noticed a decline in the quality of interior materials. However, what I love about the new Forester is its roomy interior, the excellent visibility, and its nimble handling. I am particularly impressed with the turning radius compared to the Outback. I bought the Forester in manual because I think it handles better than the sluggish automatic. I like the austere exterior design of my husband's 2007 Forester better than the more blingy design of mine. However, mine feels like a smoother, more effortless drive. I just wish that Subaru would bring the diesel vehicles to the US. If it weren't for the huge dip on our street and the security of all-wheel drive on ice, I would have purchased the Volkswagen Jetta Sportswagen."

"I bought the Forester primarily for a winter commuting car as well as one for going kayaking, biking, etc. the rest of the year. My other car is a sports car that I drive in the good weather. The Forester drives great and is very comfortable on long trips. I typically get 27 MPG commuting as a mix of highway and back roads. It handles reasonably well for a mini SUV and the turning radius is very small making parallel parking easy. Visibility is excellent. The only negative comment is the interior is kind of cheap. Easy to inadvertanlty scratch the dashboard or other areas and the carpeting is delicate. You will want winter mats to protect it."

"This is my second Forester. My first was a '99 S that I eventually traded (after 165k miles) for an '05 Acura TSX. When it came time to finally replace the Acura, I didn't hesitate - I went immediately to my local Subaru dealer and test-drove an '11 Forester. The difference between my '99 and the '11 was like night and day. Subaru seems to have a knack for taking a good vehicle and making it even better and the new generation of Forester doesn't disappoint. Performance, ride, ground-clearance, fuel economy and design have all improved dramatically over the previous generations. What hasn't improved is the audio system, which is traditionally lame in sound quality. The Bluetooth feature is nice but, overly complicated to set-up and not very good about recognizing my pronounciation of the number 'seven' and 'four'. Overall interior fit and finish are what I expect in a Forester - nothing fancy but extremely good/functional. Rear seat passengers will appreciate the larger seat, improved legroom and ability to recline from an upright position. I purchased a 2.5X Premium with All Weather Package and negotiated the installation of a fog light kit as part of the deal. It looks great! As far as the critics complaints of the 4EAT transmission being either 'squirrelly' or having a tendency to 'hunt' for the right gear, I have only noticed it when ascending steep hills at speeds of 70MPH+ but, otherwise have not experienced it. That has been a pretty common characteristic with other vehicles I've owned. My Forester is a solid highway performer and regularly delivers in the 27-28mpg range when I drive 65-70MPH. The ride is supple and inspires confidence in even the nastiest weather conditions."

"The fuel economy on this thing is very good, of course part of it is because its a 5 speed manual transmission and 80% is highway driving. I average just at 30mpg. I decided to only get the base model with only standard features because I wanted to have low monthly payments. The basic does come with alot of standard features and you also have AWD. So this SUV is the best value in its class and I LOVE IT!!"

"My first "U", a 2011 Forester boasted 21/27mpg. I get 25.8 city, have yet to drive full highway but expect 30. As an auto specialist, thoroughily evaluated all CUV's prior to buying, selected this due to a)Safety /visability, 2)Soft ride, 3) Reasonable price- new was cheaper than used, 4) Retains value better than any other, 5) Excellent value-per-cargo per CF. Though not high stylish, I like the square rear look. Definately a car-like ride soaks up bumps. Will last 15ys with good care/ maintenance. Trans is smooth shifting, rear seats most comfort of any SUV."
