Consumer Reviews
"I bought this car with about 100,000 miles on it, and it's still running strong. I live in CT, and the weather here can get pretty bad at times, I feel safe with the Legacy since it has AWD and anti-lock brakes. The styling is pretty nice especially for an older car. I have the 30th Anniversary Edition L model, which as upgrades such as alloy wheels and a power sunroof. The interior is comfortable for long trips, very supportive and doesn't strain my back. There is a pretty large trunk, larger than the new 2009 Legacy's. Power is adequate, but a little bit lacking. I think this engine should be atleast 165 horsepower (as found in the 2.5GT), but without the problems the 2.5L H4 engine had. All in all, this is a great car, I've had very little maintenance to it. Just the normal oil changes, brakes, timing belt, the only problem I faced which did cost me a lot was the catalytic converter which went at around 135,000 miles. I would recommend this car though to anyone who just wants to a safe and reliable car for all weather conditions."

"I knew I'd love my Outback when I test-drove it on Route 440 with my family in the back and the salesman at co-pilot. There's a sharply sweeping curve south of Jersey City; I downshifted from 5th to 4th gear and stayed on the gas. The Subaru took the curve like it was on rails. Since then, we've travelled local, long distance, in every kind of weather, carrying every kind of thing in, over and aft. I have never in that time ever felt like the Outback was getting out of my hands. It just keeps on, smooth, tight and efficient. Great car."

"The first car my wife and I bought together was a 30th anniversary wagon. We believe it had around 90k miles, but can't be sure that the speedometer wasn't broken with the prior owner as it was with us. Perhaps we just didn't find one that was well taken care of, but we had to put over a thousand dollars into it for repairs in under 18 months. I think that's a lot, even if most of it was just maintenance work. I'm picky with my cars, so maybe take my words with a grain of salt, but this car's overall performance could be summed up with one word: Lackluster. It didn't do anything well. The best mileage we got out of it was 27 mpg on a roadtrip. The repairs we had to do every six months made my wife fear the car. The engine and automatic tranny weren't special in any way and the tape player was insufficient. The radio display wouldn't illuminate at night like the other lighted instruments (not sure if this is by design or disrepair). I'm very glad I sold it."

"This is great car not one minutes problem. Kept up with scheduled maintenance. It is quick sporty looking car with great gas mileage. It very roomy and confortable fits 6'4 and 5'11 person comfortably. It is a good family car or sporty enough for a single a person."

"The Legacy GT has more character than most sedans out there, with the spoiler, sunroof and hood scoop adding to the sporty feel. It's also fun to drive - the manual transmission makes acceleration fun for those who really enjoy driving (like me). Like all Subarus, this car performs well in bad weather. In addition to doing fine in snow, it also got me to work when the entire highway was a sheet of ice. I drove by three lanes of other cars spinning their wheels (literally) trying to go up a hill. Value for the money rating is due to the $1100 I put into replacing the entire exhaust system last month at 77k miles."
