"Rav 4--AVOID! My new husband swore by Toyotas. Wanted a 4x4 so bought the Rav4. Felt roomy and lots of nooks and places for ease. Feels much bigger inside than it looks. Decided I don't like the back door, it's often in the way- a hatch is better 'cause you can open the window and have rain protection when loading things in the back- so Rav gets a minus there. BIGGEST NEGATIVE---the 4-whel drive automatically pops out at 30mph--designed that way--so why bother??!!! thought it handled VERY POORLY in snow and ice conditions. Had accident with it--antilock brqckes caused a fistailing and although the safety features worked great--insurance totaled the car even thought the damage looked minor. Too expensive to fix! Really! Went back to a Ford and am much happier now."

"After three years and 56k miles, I have had no problems at all. The V-8 engine has average 17.4 mpg for the life of the vehicle, which includes both city and highway driving, some off-road, and some trailering. It tows 1,500 lbs. with ease, AC is cold as the actic, and only problems have been battery replaced (at the 3 yr. anniversary). Highly recommended."

"I b I bought this V-6 Sports Edition new in 2006 and have never regretted it. The V-6 aluminum block engine makes for a well balanced vehicle and the X-reas suspension is the frosting on the cake. As I approach 40k miles, I have come to appreciate several features, rare in 2006 vehicles: ipod jack, timing chain (no belt to replace), valve stem air pressure warning, extra large front discs, stability control, many compartments including one in a non-obvious place. The V-6 engine has an occasional tick which Toyota claims not to recognize. It comes and goes but doesn't seem to be harmful. There are many reports of the tick on the 4Runner forums. Acceleration and handling are excellent for a tough body on frame SUV, and would be very good for a passenger sedan. Gas mileage, 19-22 mpg is not great but seems reasonable for the weight and performance."

"I owned a 99 4Runner and in 2006 I decided to trade it in for a new one. I got the xsp package and let me tell you its like driving a sports car. The truck came with 20" rims and low profile tires, leather and swede interior, carbon fiber trim and best of all dual Borla exhaust giving it that mean sound when you hit the gas. I love this truck and will most likely buy a third down the road. Great for the beach too."

"The ONLY negative about a 4Runner is its 20 mpg gas mileage. It is nimble, quiet, accelerates nicely, has plenty of storage space and looks great. On those occasions when I take it offroad, it is up to the challenge. It is at its best on a winding, steep mountain road..."
