The full-size five-seat Avalon tops off Toyota's sedan lineup. It's powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 that works with a six-speed automatic transmission. Avalon competitors include the Ford Taurus, Buick LaCrosse and Hyundai Azera. It's available in two trim levels: base and up-level Limited.
New for 2012
There are no significant changes for the 2012 model year.
Exterior
A wide grille connects the headlights, while the front bumper has a wide air dam. The side mirrors include turn-signal indicators. They fold in and, on the Avalon Limited, include puddle lamps. In back, the taillights feature LED light pipes. Exterior features include:
- Standard 17-inch alloy wheels
- Standard moonroof
- Standard dual chrome exhaust tips
- Optional high-intensity-discharge headlights
Interior
Front bucket seats and a rear bench provide seating for up to five people. The split rear backrest reclines, enhancing occupant comfort.
The base sedan is fairly well-equipped. It comes with leather upholstery, a nine-speaker CD stereo with iPod connectivity and dual-zone automatic air conditioning. Additional interior features include:
- Standard tilt/telescoping steering wheel
- Standard cruise control
- Standard simulated wood trim
- Optional heated and ventilated front seats
- Optional push-button start
- Optional touch-screen navigation system
Under the Hood
The Avalon is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 that drives the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Mechanical features include:
- V-6 makes 268 horsepower
- Four-wheel independent suspension

- Side-impact airbags for the front seats
