Vehicle Overview

The five-seat Corolla sedan is Toyota's entrant in the compact-car segment. Competitors include the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Honda Civic.

New for 2013

For 2013, the Corolla gets a new front grille, and the midlevel LE trim adds a chrome-accented beltline and grille.

Exterior

In an era of increasingly daring styling in the compact-car segment, the Corolla's design is bland in comparison. The S trim adds ground effects, fog lights, a rear spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels for a sportier appearance. Exterior features include:

  • Fifteen- or 16-inch wheels
  • Power side mirrors, locks and windows
  • Daytime running lights
  • Optional moonroof

Interior

The Corolla has room for five people with its front bucket seats and a three-place rear bench. A 60/40-split folding backseat is standard. Interior features include:

  • Standard air conditioning
  • Standard tilt/telescoping steering wheel
  • Standard CD stereo with MP3 jack
  • Available navigation radio with a 6.1-inch touch-screen, HD Radio with iTunes tagging, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth audio streaming and Entune
  • Fabric upholstery
  • S trim has unique steering wheel, gauges and sport seats

Under the Hood

The Corolla is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that pairs with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Front disc and rear drum brakes are standard. Mechanical features include:

  • 132-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 128 pounds-feet of torque
  • Engine uses regular gas

Safety

All Corollas come with an electronic stability system and traction control. Additional standard safety features include:

  • Front side-impact airbags
  • Side curtain airbags
  • Active front head restraints
  • Antilock brakes
