"This is a good car for the city and wilderness. I took it to Lake Tahoe and it ran great, didn't do anything wrong. Good for big group's, family, etc."

"My wife and I bought this car mainly for the occasional use we'll get out of the 7 seat capacity, and to put our money where our mouths are when it comes to fuel economy. Being the snooty bmw driver that I am, I can say with certainty that the germans have nothing to worry about in the styling, handling or feature departments. That said, we LOVE this car, purely because of the hybrid technology. Getting 25.2 mpg average in a 7 seater SUV is fantastic. I wish Toyota had given us an option for a 4 cylinder engine with higher mileage, but maybe next time. All our other complaints (no memory for different driver settings, no air in back, the infamous clumsy cupholders) are minor. It's a step in the right direction, and we just cut our family gas usage by 40% over our old Jeep."

"I had my heart set on a Highlander for my family of 5. I wanted the extra seats when we had the kids' friends over, but didn't want a monster SUV. We test drove one today and absolutely LOVED it. It drove like a car, was nicely designed (but not too "Keeping up with the Jones' flashy). Luckily, we also tried out the 3rd row seating. Toyota, you've GOTTA put some vents back there; we live in the south and my kids would've suffered from heat exhaustion. I am SO dissapointed. Now the search continues..."

"I have the AWD version. We love the ride, space, power and gas savings. I am getting about 27mpg combined. The only problem is I am the one who has to drive whenever I go places with friends! The gas savings doesn't pay for the price yet, but gas is still going up, so I believe it will soon. I can't wait until Toyota has a plug-in version, so my trips around town don't use any gas."

"I own the hybrid version and I was very happy with the power along with the gas milage I've seen. I own the all wheel version so my milage runs about 25 highway and 28 city. Not bad for 268 hp suv. As for the reliability, come on, its a Toyota!"

A Hybrid for the Mountains (and the plains)

"I have a house at 8500 feet in the Rocky Mountains, accessible only on an unpaved road. Therefore, I must have a 4WD, but I also want the low emissions and reasonably good mpg of a hybrid. The Highlander is a great solution and surprised me with its power and pep in navigating the steep mountain roads. It also delivers extremely well on comfort, handling, and reliability. A perfect choice for me, and I recommend it highly."

"Having owned the Highlander Hybrid for a month now, I have to say I am extremely happy with its performance. I average 27-30 mpg around town, and I live in a very hilly area. If you live in a "flat" area, expect better! As a practical point, however, if you are after exceptional mileage, get the Prius. We have one of those too, and average 45+ mpg in town. Its the ultimate commuter vehicle. I got 58 mpg on a 515 mile trip last week in the Prius. Gas? Who needs it?"
