"this is my second highlander. bought a 2003 limited new.had it for seven no problem years. that is why i stayed with toyota. this time i went with the base model. did not want to spend the extra money on many of the things i never used. the 2010 feels a little larger and rides great. glad i stayed with a toyota."

"Handles very well, roomy interior and well placed controls. Good mileage for a V6 with AWD and a weight of over 4,000 pounds. Toyota could have done a better job in tire selection, the Toyo A20 Open Country tires are below standard, in my opinion for a +$35,000 vehicle"

Love the car, hate the nav system

"I've driven my new highlander ltd (has most of the high end options) for 5k miles now, after owning a 99 4runner for 4 years. I love the comfort (I'm 6'3"), the ride and the options on the car and would highly recommend it EXCEPT for the Navigation system..a total waste of money. First, the displayed level of detail (street names, secondary sts,rte numbers) is so minimal until you get to very small scales that it is useless in finding a particular road/intersection. Perhaps most annoying is the inability to change/search ANYTHING if you're going more a few mph. This means on a long trip even your passenger can't search for a restaurant/poi etc unless you pull over. Same w the blue tooth phone, you can only access 'favorites' if the car is moving unless you voice dial..but then you have to know the number. Don't hesitate to buy this car but save your money and get a good Garmin GPS..you'll save a ton and its much more convenient. This lockout is becoming common on many makes (a misguided safety "feature") but at least one of the big Japanese mfgs has opted out..smart move. The dual climate w rear works well and the mileage displays are interesting. I'm getting 18-19 mpg according to the display w mostly highway driving. Interstate is around 20mpg. Using the 3rd row seats is easy but, as expected, you then have minimal cargo space behind them."

"Love the Highlander. We got the base model 4wd, and don't feel like we're missing out on GPS and fancy rims. Only drawback to the Highlander is poor city MPG. It does fine on the highways, but I'm getting about 12 MPG in the city. For me, my wife, infant, and 90lb poodle, it's the perfect size."

"The ride alone sold me - floats along like a dream! Would prefer a V6 but for the gas mileage its fair."

"With all the hype about Toyota, I have to share that this is a great vehicle. We have owned the Limited model now for 4 months. It handled well in snow/slick roads with the 4WD snow feature. It has great pick up and I am impressed with gas mileage so far-on the open road with the AWD feature- (24.9 mpg usually 20-21 mpg in city). The cabin is very roomy and comfortable while traveling. The storage capacity is wonderful. I also have a cargo net, but really don't need it very often. Things just seem to 'stay put' if I tuck into the back corner. I absolutely love the automatic hatch opening feature. Mothers out there-its a must have. The smart key is a change, but a great idea and it makes me laugh because it WON'T LET you lock your key in the vehicle. It has many electronic features that do take some time to learn. It is necessary to read the manual and work with it instead of trying it while driving! I thought that the doors were a little odd looking, until I realized that the concave curve to the door avoids those frequent bumps and dings that one often gets with other designs, I can appreciate that! The ride is not as smooth as our previous SUV but it was more impressive to me than the RAV4 over rough pavement. I can live with a few bumps. The service that we have received from the Toyota dealership since purchase has been outstanding and I must commend them here. So far so good..."

"I recently purchased a brand new 2010 Toyota Highlander, fully equipped including tow package. Although only having driven it about 3000 miles, mostly long trips, I am totally in love with this vehicle. Handling and ride smoothness is exceptional. When you need engine power for passing, etc., it is certainly there. Dash controls are very easy. Keyless system is superb. Fuel consumption is averaging almost 21 MPG, which on long trips I was hoping for 23, but this is acceptable. Rear seats are very roomy and rear cargo space is very good. NO brake issues, NO floor mat issues."

"Have the 6cy/FWD Highlander Limited for 3 months and very happy. I have driven vehicle on a 1200 mile trip at Christmas and got great mileage(23+ mpg) and very, very comfortable. Driving around town averaging 18+ mpg. Love the fact it uses regular gas. Love the six month trial of XM radio, good gas mileage, comfortable, quiet and handles very nicely."
