"2008 Rav4 V6 Limited - almost neck-snapping pickup, tight handling, great in snow and lots of great options. Bluetooth clearer than using the phone, both receiving and transmitting!"

Dependable transportation with cheap interior

"We have had our Rav 4 since new in 2008 and have yet to have any mechanical problems at all after 65,000+ miles. Mileage and performance is good with the 4 cylinder, handling is crisp for a SUV. I was concerned a little about the large back door but it really works well for loading our dogs in the back with the garage door in the closed position. With our normal sized 2 car garage, we could not load the dogs with a vertically opening tailgate that other SUV's have. As far as the interior is concerned, Toyota really got cheap with the Rav 4. Hard, easily scratched, squeaky plastics are everywhere. Makes me feel like I am driving a cheap throw-away car. Such a shame because it seems like this is the direction Toyota is heading as well as other manufacturers with the plastics in their interiors. Maybe it is the result of their efforts to make more of their cars recylable, which is commendable, but really? Does it need to feel that cheap inside? I would recommend this car to others based on the drivability and reliability but if you want to feel quality for the money you spend while sitting inside you may need to look elsewhere."

"Overall I am very happy with my RAV4: have owned it for almost a year now. There is only one negative aspect I have noticed so far: it doesn't do well in wintery conditions. Last winter I tried driving through a snow storm and my Toyota was sliding all over the place, no matter how slow and careful i was driving."

"Drives well. Good value. Sporty. Mine is an automatic 4 speed transmission...which, I believe, is the source of my frustration...I had thought it would get better gas mileage. If there is a 5 speed transmission option, buy that one. At 75 mph, it runs at just under 3,000 rpms...too high. Two other beefs: head rest sticks forward too much...pushing my head forward and chin down...uncomfortable. There is no reminder chime when I exit my car and leave my lights on...hard to remember after I've been untrained with my previous car."

"2008 v-6 4wd runs great. Have 102K on mine. Only complaint is that tires only last 25k miles. Rotations need to be every 3K and tires crossed when moving rear to front or you will have tremendous road noise due to the tires wearing unevenly. Air pressure needs to be kept close to the max rated for tire. Toyota typically set the pressure low to improve ride. My tires are rated at 51 psi max, dealer set at 36, I set at 45. 18 inch tires run $150 plus."

"One of the best out there. I've truly enjoyed mine. The only change I would make if on the redesign team would be to make the back hatch open up, instead of to the side."
