Vehicle Overview

The Jetta is a premium compact sedan that's offered ioffered in trim levels including S, SE and SEL. There's also a diesel (TDI) and a station wagon variant. The sedan is due to be redesigned for 2011, but the Sport Wagon gets a head start with fresh styling for 2010 like that of the new Golf (the wagon is sold as a Golf in Europe). The Jetta's competitors include the Honda Civic and Mazda3.

New for 2010

This year, most changes on the sedan are on the inside. All models have new steering wheels, instrument clusters, climate controls and interior trim, and Bluetooth is standard on all trim levels except the S, where it's optional.

Exterior

Exhibiting a sleek look, the Jetta has a large trapezoidal grille and a front end that resembles the Golf's.

  • 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter five-cylinder with 177 pounds-feet of torque
  • 140-hp, direct-injected turbocharged diesel with 236 pounds-feet of torque (TDI)
  • Available five- or six-speed manual transmission
  • Optional six-speed automatic transmission
  • Optional six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission

Safety

Safety features include:

  • Standard front side-impact and optional rear side-impact airbags
  • Standard side curtain airbags
  • Standard antilock braking system with brake-force distribution
  • Standard electronic stability system and traction control
