The Passat is Volkswagen's midsize car, and it's available in both sedan and wagon body styles. Competitors include the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima.

New for 2009
The all-wheel-drive option and the V-6 engine option have been dropped. Heated seats and fog lights are standard, as are automatic headlights. The Passat is now available in only one trim level: Komfort.
Exterior
A medallion-shaped grille covers the Passat's front end, and sweeping lines enhance the model's sides. The body is 188.2 inches long and 71.7 inches wide. The Passat's brakes have a wiping feature that removes moisture on the discs.

Interior
The Passat has room for up to five people. The 60/40-split folding rear seat has a pass-thru provision. Sedan owners get 14.2 cubic feet of trunk room. The Passat has an electronic parking brake, and the driver faces a four-spoke tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

Under the Hood
Volkswagen's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder develops 200 horsepower and 207 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic that incorporates Tiptronic manual gear selection can team with the four-cylinder engine. The Passat is no longer available with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine or all-wheel drive.

2009 Passat Wagon
Like the sedan, the 2009 wagon is available in only one trim level: Komfort. That includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that develops 200 hp and 207 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic that incorporates Tiptronic manual gear selection works with the engine.
The wagon provides increased cargo space: 35.8 feet compared to the sedan's 14.2, however it is listed as being .2 inches shorter than the sedan. A power liftgate is standard on wagons.
The Passat wagon has all the same standard safety equipment as the sedan, as well as optional side-impact airbags for the rear seats, as does the sedan.
