"Now and ex owner of a highline model. In the 3 years we owned the car from new it was at the dealership too many times to remember. Engine warning light on for faulty fuel injectors, side turning lights every three months, rear brakes last only 12,000 km. The final straw was complete failure of the electronics causing the engine to shut down and not restart in the middle of nowhere. The price might suggest this is a decent car but experience proves otherwise. Happy to be a former owner and will not be returning to VW."

"We leased this car new and cannot wait to get rid of it! I am a stay at home mom and only used the vehicle for around the town errands. It was serviced for a blown wiper motor within the first 2 years, the cheap plastic seatbelt covers and turn signal column fell apart. The brakes squeal louder than my 4 yr old, however, the shop says that it's normal! We are done with cheap over priced VW's!"

Looks Great but Unreliable

"I am a now former, 2009 VW Tiguan owner. Over a 3.5 year ownership of the vehicle, I have had a nightmare experience with the car. I honestly feel that my particular vehicle was not ready for the market for whatever reasons. I experienced "EPC Lights" at least 10 times in 3 years. This was terrifying and a safety hazard as the car would stop accelerating and force me to pull over to the side of the road to restart. This became very tedious and unfortunately, routine. The car looks great, is very comfortable, but I would not rely on this car at all. The repairs were too expensive to maintain. The gas mileage will only get you 21 mpg at best and the premium gas fillup is quite expensive. In 3 years of owning the car, I had all these problems: ? A spark plug misfire problem due to oil leaking from a valve cover seal ? An electrical problem due to a short from the wiring with the throttle. ? a drive belt replacement ? some leakage in hoses ? clean up of carbon buildup that I was advised to do for the car to run smoother. ? replaced the car battery when the car died I would not say that is normal at all. Overall, the car is a great drive but there are just too many reliability issues to deal with. After all, what good is a car if it can't get you to your destination?"

"This car is so much fun to drive-love the feel of it. I previously owned a Jetta for 11 years. When this car died, I first bought a Subaru Forester, but missed the feel of a VW so much that after one month I turned it in for the Tiguan! The only thing keeping me from a 5 star rating is the fuel economy."

"A great crossover from vw. Tiguan SEL i think IMO is the way to go. Comfort, 4motion drivetrain with a heart of the award winnning GTI and the nice european interior touch and exterior styling....what else can u ask for? Why buy anything else? Unless of course u want something u see in every corner or u envy ur neighbors suv...ie;(CRV, Rav4)"

What a Surprise! Great SUV

"Bought the Tiguan in September 2010 and having a great time. I was trying to decide between a Ford Escape or Honda CRV and could not make up my mind since neither got me motivated. Then this Tiguan showed up on the used car listing, so I thought, why not. Once I drove it I was hooked. Handled like a sports car, nice and tight VW build quality, and had plenty of space in the rear with my seat pushed all the way back. Gas mileage is good, although the premium gas requirement was a bit of a let down, but that vanishes when I get it on the open road. Love the sound system that allows me to plug in my IPHONE and listen to music and answer calls like a hands free phone. Just a great car!"

"This car was purchased for my wife who was at first skeptical about driving anything that contained the letters "S" U" or "V" in its description. In order to attain all of the options her previous Passat had, we bought the 2010 SEL 4-Motion, all the bells and whistles. Long story short, she LOVES this car. S drives it a 75 mile round trip commute everyday (if not more) and cant get enough of it. Calls it her "GTI on stilts" She tends to be very specific about what she likes and dislikes with her vehicles and the fact that she has spoken nothing but praise for this car in the 3 months we have owned it tells me we made the right decision!"

"SEL 4Motion. 1 Year 15k miles and zero problems. Very pleased with this vehicle, unique look, excellent handling and acceleration. Driven on rough dusty roads every day and no rattles or squeaks. Great build quality in and out. Front and rear seats the best I have experienced in a small to mid sized SUV. Average MPG using premium fuel in combination city/hwy with hills has been 21.5. Winter conditions no problem at all, however we did swap to snow tires and wheels. The 19" wheels and low profile tires not made for serious winter driving, no surprise there."
