The 2014 Volvo XC70 is an off-road-themed wagon with the ground clearance of an SUV and the sleek shape of a wagon. Volvo's five-seat wagon welcomes a few updates for 2014. The XC70 features front- or all-wheel drive and competes with the Cadillac CTS, Subaru Outback and Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagons.
New for 2014
The 2014 XC70 is mildly restyled up front and has additional technology on the inside with an electronic gauge cluster, new multimedia system and enhanced safety features.
ExteriorVolvo aimed for a rugged and refined contemporary look while updating the XC70 for 2014. The new look is mildly different and includes a bolder grille, additional matte silver touches and restyled taillights. The off-road theme is prevalent on the XC70's exterior with protective black cladding surrounding the lower portion of the car and skid plates underneath for off-road protection. Exterior features include:

InteriorThe XC70 has room for five occupants and features folding rear seats in a 40/20/40 configuration. The XC70 has an available configurable digital gauge cluster for 2014 that replaces a standard tachometer and speedometer on T6 trim levels, and is optional on base 3.2 models. Display options include a traditional appearance, eco theme with eco meter and green background or a performance theme with red background.
Other new technology includes an available Sensus Connected Touch multimedia system with 7-inch display that receives an internet connection for in-car apps and Wi-Fi from a wireless card or mobile phone. Interior features include:

Under the HoodThe base 3.2 uses a 3.2-liter inline-six-cylinder with standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive while the T6 trim level gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder and standard all-wheel drive. T6 models receive new transmission programming to reduce shift time and knock .4 seconds off the zero-to-60 mph time — from 6.9 to 6.5 seconds. Mechanical features include:
- 240-horsepower, 3.2-liter six-cylinder with 236 pounds-feet of torque (3.2)
- 300-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 325 pounds-feet of torque (T6)
- Six-speed automatic transmission
- 3,300-pound towing capacity
SafetyVolvo's City Safety technology is standard and includes a low-speed collision prevention feature that now works at speeds up to 31 mph to automatically brake when a collision is detected. Safety features include:
- Available pedestrian detection
- Available cyclist detection
- Electronic stability system
- Antilock brakes
