Today, Tesla announced it would have a new CEO, Elon Musk, formerly of PayPal, who has personally invested millions into the electric-car company. This is the company’s fourth CEO in its short history. It’s made many missteps thus far, including delays of its first product, the Roadster.
Musk spent some time with “60 Minutes” for a segment that aired last week, explaining just how much of his own cash is invested in the company. While we here at KickingTires have said we’ll believe a viable Tesla when we see it — and we’ve not yet been proved incorrect for our bet-hedging — the most interesting part of the “60 Minutes” segment was GM’s Bob Lutz saying Tesla spurred him to make the Volt. We believe a bit more in the Volt than we do in a full-fledged Tesla lineup, but even GM’s future is in flux these days.
