Recall Alert: 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Chrysler Group is recalling more than 56,000 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks over an issue with the rear axle bearing.

On some models built between September 2009 and December 2010, not enough lubricant was placed in the rear axle bearing. As a result, the bearing could seize, increasing the risk of an accident.

The bearing failure typically occurred within the first 500 miles, preceded by a groan or grinding noise, according to some reports.

Chrysler will notify affected owners in February. Dealerships will add 20 ounces of fluid to the rear axle bearing.

For more info, owners can contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403 or NHTSA’s hot line at 888-327-4236.
