Ford's smallest car is updated for 2014, and the star of the new Fiesta is under the hood: A turbocharged 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine makes its U.S debut. The subcompact also gets revised styling and more available features like the MyFord Touch multimedia system.
Sedan and four-door hatchback body styles return for 2014. Both versions wear a restyled grille with more chrome, borrowing the look from larger sibling, the Fusion, which was redesigned for 2013.
The 1.0-liter engine makes 123 horsepower, and Ford expects it to offer more than 40 mpg, making the Fiesta the "most fuel-efficient non-hybrid subcompact in America," the automaker said in a statement. The new engine joins the previous version's 1.6-liter four-cylinder, which is EPA-rated at 29/39 mpg city/highway; SFE versions are rated at 29/40 mpg. Five-speed manual and six-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmissions carryover.
S, SE, Titanium trim levels are again available and base models will continue to use the 1.6-liter four-cylinder. Inside, there's a revised instrument panel, making room for the optional MyFord Touch multimedia system's 6.5-inch touch-screen. It's the first time Ford's troubled system is available in the Fiesta. Ford says the Fiesta gets an updated version, however, with enhanced voice-control functionality.
Also new is an optional Sony HD audio unit and Ford's MyKey system; the latter allows parents to program speed, seat belt and audio volume parameters. Other available features include leather-trimmed seats, a power moonroof and LED parking lamps.
The 2014 Fiesta goes on sale next year.
