Vehicles Affected: Approximately 14,000 model-year 2013-14 BMW 528i, 528i xDrive, 535i xDrive, 550i, 550i xDrive and M5 luxury sedans; model-year 2013 ActiveHybrid 5 luxury sedans; and model-year 2014 525d xDrive luxury sedans
The Problem: The rear reflex reflectors may not reflect enough light, making the vehicle less visible to others and increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the rear reflex reflectors for free.
What Owners Should Do: BMW will begin notifying owners July 24. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
