Big-box retailers aren't the only ones broadcasting Black Friday discounts. Automakers have thrown their, uh, pilgrim hats in the ring. GM and Ford are offering incentives for deal-hunting car shoppers that go well beyond existing programs. GM has Black Friday specials among its Chevrolet, GMC and Buick brands. The automaker's Cadillac division, like many luxury brands, has separate holiday-themed deals. The same goes for Ford, whose namesake brand, but not its Lincoln luxury division, has a Black Friday program.
We tallied up the best Black Friday deals you can find once the food coma subsides. As always, regional pricing may vary so check with your local dealer for specifics.Chevrolet has $3,125 off the 2014 Malibu LS, which got a number of updates for 2014. That means shoppers can get a base Malibu for less than $20,000 including an $825 destination charge. Similar deals exist for 2014 on the Cruze LS with an automatic transmission ($2,026 off), plus front-drive LS versions of the Equinox ($2,108 off) and Traverse ($3,082 off). The Malibu offer is the biggest deal based on a percentage of the MSRP, and you should be able to find one. In Cars.com inventory, 41.3 percent of new 2014 Malibus that specify trim levels are LS models.
GMC has deals on the 2014 Acadia Denali ($4,284 off) with front- or all-wheel drive, while Buick has Black Friday deals on the 2014 LaCrosse with Premium II Group ($3,889 off) and the all-wheel-drive Enclave with Premium Group ($4,766 off).
Ford is throwing in a Black Friday prepaid MasterCard with $1,000 or $1,500 with the purchase of select 2013 and 2014 models. Southern California appears exempt from the offers, but the other areas we checked — Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Seattle — had the offers for a number of models. The MasterCard can be applied to your purchase or mailed to you and used through mid-2014, but you can’t withdraw its value as cash. Check with your dealer for full details.
The deals run through the close of business on Monday, Dec. 2, and "that can be as late as midnight Eastern time," Ford spokeswoman Elizabeth Weigandt told us. "It will vary by dealership."
Honda and Nissan have taken the luxury route with end-of-year holiday programs not tied to Black Friday, but individual dealers may have their own specials.
