2020 Lincoln Corsair Video: Visibly Better Than the MKC

The latest new vehicle from Lincoln, the 2020 Corsair, is a replacement for the Lincoln MKC — the Ford luxury brand’s previous compact SUV offering — but beyond just having a new name, it’s also completely redesigned from top to bottom. The Corsair has a few things in common with the 2020 Ford Escape, which is also redesigned for this model year, but we think that there’s enough difference between the two vehicles for the Corsair to really stand out on its own.

One of the big highlights of the Corsair is inside. Even though it’s only a little bit bigger than the MKC, it seems like engineers have really expanded the interior. The sight lines are better, there’s a lot better visibility all around, and Lincoln told us that the rear glass behind the C-pillar that you use to see your blind spot is actually 300 percent larger. That’s because the glass in the MKC was kind of tiny and you couldn’t see over it, but now there’s good visibility all around, and that extends to backseat passengers.

What has really trickled down from the full-size Lincoln Navigator SUV into the Corsair is the setup of the cabin. Up front, an 8-inch touchscreen — which is a little bit small for this segment — is placed nice and high so you can see it without taking your eyes too far down off the road. But also, the center-stack area has also been completely redone, and this is actually one of my favorite treatments for any center console. What Lincoln has done is consolidated all of the controls you would need into a little shelf sort of thing that juts out from below the screen; that includes buttons in place of a shift knob, climate controls, and multimedia and radio functions (thankfully they’re all physical buttons, so it’s easy to learn where they are).

Something else that configuration of those controls does is open up a large area underneath it for storage. As a result, you get a second storage bin up front that contains both USB-A and USB-C ports, and it allows you to fit a phone or other large object inside. Speaking of phones and large objects, Lincoln has also devised a solution for accommodating increasingly bigger smartphone footprints with a vertically configured wireless charging pad.
