2020 Porsche 718 Boxster T, 718 Cayman T Peddle Performance as Standard

Porsche will bring new, performance-oriented versions of the 2020 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman to the U.S. next summer. Called the 718 Boxster T and 718 Cayman T, these models feature performance options from other Boxster and Cayman models as standard equipment.

Neither model gets an engine upgrade, however. Power will come from the same standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as in base model Boxsters and Caymans. The engine produces 300 horsepower and 280 pounds-feet of torque. While the standard transmission is a six-speed manual with a short-throw shifter, the optional seven-speed PDK (dual-clutch) automatic transmission produces the quicker car: Zero-to-60-mph times for both are 4.5 seconds when equipped with the PDK and using launch control, according to Porsche.

The performance features included with the T models are the PASM Sport Suspension, which lowers each car nearly eight-tenths of an inch and includes shorter springs and differently tuned adaptive dampers. Also standard is a torque-vectoring, mechanical limited-slip differential. Porsche’s Sport Chrono Package is part of the T treatment, as well.

Cosmetic features of the T models include 20-inch wheels from the 911 Carrera S with a unique Titanium Grey finish and Agate Grey mirror caps. The convertible Boxster T also gets Agate Grey roll bar hoops. The interior comes standard with the Sport Seats Plus option, and full bucket seats or 18-way power adaptive sport seats are optional. In a nod to previous performance Porsches, the door handles are replaced by black fabric loops. The usually optional GT Sport steering wheel is also standard equipment here. An optional interior package adds contrasting stitching and center seat stripes in Guards Red, Racing Yellow, GT Silver or Lizard Green.
