Toyota is issuing a recall over concerns with faulty electricity converters that could increase the risk of a fire, with approximately 43,000 Toyota and Lexus plug-in hybrid SUVs affected by the issue.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2021-22 Toyota RAV4 Prime SUVs and model-year 2022 Lexus NX450h+ SUVs. The issue is with the DC-DC converter, which may not convert electricity voltage properly and experience a short circuit. As a result of the excessive heat generated by the short circuit, there’s an increased risk of a vehicle fire.
To resolve the issue, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect and replace the DC-DC converter, as necessary, for free. Toyota will notify owners of affected vehicles by early September, but those with questions in the meantime can contact Toyota at 800-331-4331 or Lexus at 800-255-3987, check for recalls on the Toyota website, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
