Acura’s Next Electric SUV Is Not the RSX You Remember

Acura is putting the Performance EV Concept electric SUV it showed off in 2024 into production, and it will bear a name that’s all but certain to confuse sports compact car enthusiasts: Acura RSX. The new RSX will slot right under the existing ZDX electric vehicle in size, and it will be the first EV to be designed by Honda and built at the new Honda EV Hub in Ohio.

Production of the new RSX is set to start in late 2025, with production of the Honda 0 Series SUV and Saloon following shortly afterward at the Honda EV Hub in 2026. Like the 0 Series concepts, the new RSX will run on Honda’s latest vehicle operating system, Asimo OS, which is named after the automaker’s beloved robot. The system will handle every electronic system in the car from radio settings to driver assists and will be capable of accepting over-the-air updates.

As for why future searches for two-door, gas-powered RSXs will become increasingly year-dependent, blame the new RSX SUV’s coupelike fastback roof and the fact that “RSX” oozes sporty coolness as a name. Besides, true fanboys know that the original RSX was really just a fourth-gen Honda Integra with a premium badge for the American market.

The RSX marks a major step forward in Honda’s commitment to EVs, as Honda’s existing EVs, the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue, were made through a partnership with GM and run on GM’s Ultium platform. This isn’t the end of Honda partnering with other companies on EVs, however. Existing Honda and Acura EV owners will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network this spring. Honda also banded together with several other automakers to form the Ionna partnership, which aims to build a nationwide public-charging network across the United States. Ionna currently has four charging stations open in a beta program and will break ground on a fifth one this month.
