Chevrolet announced today that it will offer the Beats Music streaming audio service later this year as part of its new AppShop feature. The app will be available on select 2015 models in the brand’s lineup. General Motors is upgrading to high-speed 4G LTE broadband connections for its OnStar service starting with select 2015 models, and this is leading to a host of new features that will come on new vehicles later this year.

Beats Music, launched earlier this year and spearheaded by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, is the latest streaming audio player that allows paying customers to access music via the internet and play it on various devices. It uses broadband wireless connection in the car for the Chevrolet integration.

Registered users must pay a subscription fee and have an established account; in return, they can personalize playlists and musical genres or use Beats Music’s curated lists. Incorporated features available on the in-car app will include the Just For You personalized recommendations, Highlights staff recommendations and access to stored playlists that customers can tailor to their mood — drive time, road trips, Sunday cruising, traffic jams and more.

This is just the latest streaming music service offered through the Chevrolet AppShop, a new system that aims to reduce drivers focus on handheld smartphones by providing apps designed specifically to be run on vehicle screens. Beats Music joins iHeartRadio, Slacker Radio and TuneIn Radio in the MyLink AppShop.
