Car DVD Systems Taking Away From Family Trips

There’s something new to consider when packing up for that long road trip: the DVD player. Currently, 32% of families use the device in their cars, and that number is expected to grow to 37% in 2007. Advocates for the systems say they get peace and quiet from rambunctious children during long drives. The other side says this takes away from the family experience.

Many people have fond memories of trips in the car when they learned the license plate game and — dare we guess — even a little local geography.

Which side are you on? Summer vacation season just ended, so there should be plenty of first-hand experience out there. Are onboard DVD systems the way to go or the end of the family road trip as we know it?
