As the DVR/TiVo-ing of American continues, advertisers have to find new ways to get themselves in front of couch potatoes. Cadillac is going all out this month by tying into the launch of CBS’ Monday night lineup to advertise its own launch of the all-new CTS sedan. While we think the idea of putting the CTS in numerous episodes of “CSI: Miami” is a no-brainer, we’re not so sure how the sleek sedan relates to two hours of comedy, or its audience.

The New York Times muses that the one new comedy debuting that night better not flop or Cadillac will be the butt of future jokes. But even with the mega-hit “Two and a Half Men” and the critic darling “How I Met Your Mother” in the lineup, we’re thinking it’s not the success of the shows Cadillac should have thought about, it’s the type of shows.

Why not tie in to all-three “CSI“ franchises, instead? Tuesday night has three dramas: “NCIS,” “The Unit” and “Cane.” Thursday has “Survivor: China,” “CSI” and “Without a Trace.” Either one seems like a more natural fit. Cadillac points to affluent viewers who watch “Two and a Half Men” as the main draw to land its advertising dollars.

On the other hand, we saw a shiny, brand-new black CTS on the commute into work today and bent our necks to check it out. Does Cadillac really need all this hubbub when it can turn heads so easily with the product itself?
