Chrysler Offers Extended Lifetime Warranties on Certified Pre-Owned Models

Certified pre-owned warranties vary slightly by manufacturer, but they’re all similar. They combine an original manufacturer warranty with an extended CPO warranty, then offer inspections, roadside assistance and other perks. The benefits are clear: Instead of assuming the risk that comes from not knowing a used car’s history, customers get peace of mind. (They also get to pay a bit extra in the exchange.)
Chrysler has decided to try and break out of that pack by offering extended service contracts for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge CPO vehicles. The contracts are divided by what they cover. For example, the Lifetime Powertrain Care upgrade covers engines, transmissions and drivelines; the Lifetime Added Care Plus covers those components plus interior electrical functions, fuel systems and suspensions; and the Lifetime Maximum Care plan covers everything “with only a few exclusions,” according to Chrysler.
Chrysler didn’t announce the prices with these plans, so it’s unclear how much more customers will be asked to pay for the benefit of a lifetime component warranty — or whether or not customers will want the warranties at all.
