Ford, Sony Teaming Up on Car Audio

Ford continues its outsourcing of technical equipment with a recent deal with Sony making it the audio system outfitter for all Ford and Mercury vehicles, starting with the still-to-be-officially-announced Ford Flex crossover.

At the Detroit auto show, Ford debuted its new Sync entertainment and communication system, developed jointly with Microsoft. The Sony deal isn’t anything new in the industry, and some of our readers probably drive other brands that come equipped with sound systems from Bose, Infinity, Harman Kardon, Boston Acoustics and other audio manufacturers.

In the article below, one analyst is quoted as saying this move with Sony gives Ford a “leg up” on the competition, but we don’t see how it’s any different from all the companies listed above. One favorite stereo option of ours is Scion, which offers an empty spot on the dash for complete customization by the car owner.
