Hybrids, EVs and Performance: Honda, Acura Have Big Plans for the Next Few Years
Key Points
- Honda has plans to introduce its first in-house electric vehicle and a small towable camper in the next year.
- Acura is also bringing hybrids back to its lineup with the next-generation RDX in the coming years and its second EV, the RSX, later this year. (Acura is Honda’s luxury arm.)
Honda had a great 2025. With over 1.4 million vehicles sold between it and Acura, sales were up slightly compared to 2024. To celebrate, the automaker showed us what it’s working on for the next few years, and there are some big changes coming to both lineups.

Honda
Honda has already been busy updating many of its most popular models over the last year or so, including the Accord, CR-V TrailSport, Passport and Pilot, as well as new products like the Prelude. That momentum will continue in 2026.
First up will be the Civic hybrid, which will gain the S+ Shift feature from the Prelude later this year. S+ Shift is able to simulate the behavior of a performance transmission in hybrid vehicles. The high-performance Civic Type R will also get an update later this year. Honda was light on the details of just what exactly this update will entail, but it did say that the Type R will get refreshed both inside and out.
The biggest news, however, surrounds Honda’s 0 Series EV. Designed in-house by Honda, the all-electric crossover will enter production later this year, with an electric sedan following in 2027.
The last bit of news is the most surprising and doesn’t even concern a car at all. Honda wants to get into the booming camping business, and it’s planning to do so by introducing a towable camper. Honda’s camper is called the Base Station, and while it’s just a prototype for now, Honda says it’s working to bring it to market. Designed by the same team that did the Motocompacto electric scooter, the Base Station has a compact, modular design; Honda says it can be towed by something like a CR-V or Prologue. That modular design also allows the camper to be outfitted with certain expansive accessories like an external shower, air conditioning or even an entire external kitchen.
Acura
Meanwhile, the big news at Acura is green energy. The luxury brand will enter this new era with its second EV, the reborn RSX. No longer the sport compact coupe it was in the 2000s, it’s now an electric crossover and will go on sale later this year.
Following the RSX EV will be the return of hybrids to Acura’s lineup in the next few years. Acura is going about introducing the first of these hybrids in a strange way: Things will start with a new fourth-generation RDX crossover. The current generation — which has been on sale since 2018 — will end production this year, leaving a gap in the brand’s lineup that should be temporarily filled by the RSX EV.
Then, in the next year or two, the new RDX will enter production. Acura says it’ll be a two-motor hybrid and is part of the brand’s plans to offer customers a mix of gas, hybrid and all-electric powertrain options. Other updates for Acura’s lineup include a refreshed Integra Type S and an updated MDX later this year.
