Illinois Driver's Ed Law Influenced by Cars.com Goes into Effect Jan. 1

In 2011, Cars.com and the Chicago Tribune teamed up to investigate the safety of cars driven by Chicago-area teens in driver’s education programs. The report unveiled vehicles with sub-par safety ratings and virtually no regulation for what students drive while learning the rules of the road. State Sen. Susan Garrett took notice and sponsored a new law that sets standards for vehicles used in Illinois’ driver’s ed programs.
 
The new law goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2013, and you can click below to see a recap of the investigation as well as the new requirements for schools and driver’s education programs.
