On the bright side, vehicle theft as a whole has dropped significantly. The preliminary numbers from the FBI’s 2008 Uniform Crime Report show that car theft will decrease by 13.1% from 2007, which means vehicle-theft numbers have dropped for five years in a row. If these preliminary figures are a fair indication, the total number of stolen cars for 2008 would drop below 1 million vehicles. This would be the lowest annual total in more than two decades.
