Having just debuted the 2024 Wagoneer S Launch Edition that will go on sale this fall, Jeep is wasting no time in previewing how it might steer its first fully electric vehicle down a familiar trail. Clearly based on the production vehicle, the Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept returns the Jeep of the future to the brand’s roots.

Riding on a lifted suspension and 31.5-inch all-terrain tires, the Trailhawk concept features unique front and rear bumpers with orange tow hooks. Internal-combustion Trailhawks feature red tow hooks, while Jeep’s plug-in hybrid 4xe off-roaders get blue ones; we wouldn’t be surprised if we are witnessing the birth of a new signature color for the electric off-roaders of Jeep’s future.

Concept in Name Only?

Aside from the unique bumpers, though, the Trailhawk concept sticks close to the production Wagoneer S; it’s mostly differentiated by trim details and colors. The seven-slot illuminated “grille” remains but gets a textured finish and dark-gray metallic accents. The concept is sprayed an olive-green hue Jeep calls Banner and features a matte-black hood decal for limiting glare, as well as flush badging the company says is “inspired by modern aircraft.” We’re pretty sure aviators just call those decals, too.

Inside, the Trailhawk concept is upholstered in Mantis Green synthetic leather with Ultraviolet accent stitching. Elsewhere, the interior of the Trailhawk gets metallic accents and is trimmed in real stone veneer inspired by the unique geometric structure of meteorites. Jeep notes that, in addition to a dual-pane panoramic moonroof, this concept features heated and ventilated seats — a production-level detail that usually wouldn’t be worth mentioning on a vehicle meant strictly for the show circuit.

Dedicated Off-Road Gear

The Wagoneer S’ standard Selec-Terrain drive mode controller gets a sixth setting in the Trailhawk concept. Rock mode is a fresh addition to the existing Auto, Sand, Snow, Eco and Sport modes, and it no doubt utilizes the concept’s electronically controlled locking rear axle. Should the Trailhawk see the light of production, one element we’d imagine might be on the chopping block is the cross-car grab bars that necessitated the removal of the infotainment system’s lower screen. However, Jeep notes the grab bars’ inserts are threaded for mounting accessories using quarter-inch fasteners with a 20-thread pitch — which is, again, conspicuously specific.

Jeep is committed to, as it says, “transforming 4xe into the new 4×4.” So, whether or not the Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept will be the brand’s first electric off-roader to go into production, it seems clear that one is coming soon. We’d bet it wears orange tow hooks.
