No, this is not another sleek, swoopy BMW “Sports Activity Vehicle,” but it sure looks like one. Rather, it’s a new concept from luxury-brand rival Mercedes-Benz. The Concept GLC Coup‚ is making its debut at the 2015 Shanghai auto show with styling reminiscent of the new 2016 GLE Coupe, the brand’s BMW X6 fighter.
The concept is smaller than the GLE Coupe, and styling is both sporty and off-road-oriented with a large, upright version of the brand’s hallmark grille, large air intakes, and muscular hood and bodyside lines as well as large 21-inch wheels, a raised suspension and rugged-looking running boards. Under the hood — the bright Solar Beam and matte Gun Metal Magno painted hood — is a 367-horsepower, twin-turbo V-6 with direct injection and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Will it see production? Mercedes-Benz says there’s room for more SUVs in its lineup and it might drop “concept” from its name soon; the automaker calls it a “near-production-standard study.” Check out the gallery below.
